Mike Musyoki
Michael Musyoki (born May 28, 1956) is a retired long-distance runner from Kenya. He won the bronze medal in 10,000 metres at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Running career Collegiate Musyoki was recruited by University of Texas at El Paso, a school which was building a star-studded team of distance-runners in the late 1970s. Suleiman Nyambui and Musyoki were UTEP's two premier foreign distance-runner recruits at the time, and finished in first and second place respectively in the 10,000 metre race at the 1979 NCAA Outdoor Track Championships. A half marathon is a road running event of —half the distance of a marathon. It is common for a half marathon event to be held concurrently with a marathon or a 5K race, using almost the same course with a late start, an early finish, or shortcuts. Herb Lindsay
Herb Lindsay (born November 12, 1954) is an American former long-distance runner. He competed in track, road and cross country running disciplines. He was the silver medalist in the 5000-meter run at the 1979 Pan American Games, finishing behind compatriot Matt Centrowitz. He also represented his country at the 1982 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, coming 69th overall and sixth in the team rankings. Career Born in Michigan, he grew up in a rural area in Grand Rapids, then Reed City. He was the youngest of six children, with three older sisters and two brothers. He attended Reed City High School and began racing there, earning high school state championships in cross country and distance track events. Salvatore Antibo
Salvatore Antibo (born 7 February 1962) is a former long-distance runner from Italy. He won nine medals at the International athletics competitions. but he never won a national championship (neither outdoor nor indoor). Biography Antibo was born on 7 February 1962 in Altofonte, within the province of Palermo (Sicily). He revealed as a consistent middle-distance runner in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, when he arrived fourth in the 10,000 m final. His national popularity was however overshadowed by his compatriot Alberto Cova, who won the gold medal. After a bronze medal at the 1986 European Championships, behind Stefano Mei and again Cova, he gained the status of Italian number one, winning the silver medal over 10,000 m at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Mike McLeod (athlete)
Michael James McLeod (born 25 January 1952) is a British former athlete who competed mainly in the 10,000 metres. He competed in three Olympic Games. Biography McLeod competed for Great Britain in the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles in the 10,000 metres where he won the silver medal. He only finished third but second placed Martti Vainio had been disqualified for taking anabolic steroids. Race winner Alberto Cova has since admitted to using blood transfusions during his career, and there has been speculation that McLeod could and should therefore be eventually awarded the gold medal. McLeod ran for Elswick Harriers of Newcastle upon Tyne from an early age winning many races on a regional, national and international scale. Great North Run
The Great North Run (branded the AJ Bell Great North Run for sponsorship purposes) is the largest half marathon in the world, taking place annually in North East England each September. Participants run between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields. The run was devised by former Olympic Games, Olympic 10,000 m bronze medallist and BBC Sport commentator Brendan Foster. The first Great North Run was staged on 28 June 1981, when 12,000 runners participated. By 2011, the number of participants had risen to 54,000.
