History It is named for Mike Durfee who was a standout athlete and teacher at the school. It opened under the name of Springfield State Prison in 1984 with women from the prison at Yankton, South Dakota. It became coed in 1985 with males being admitted. Ted Alvin Klaudt (born April 9, 1958) is a convicted rapist, farmer, rancher, and former Republican member of the South Dakota House of Representatives (1999–2006) from Walker, South Dakota, United States. In November 2007 he was convicted of four counts of raping his two foster daughters.
