Mikaela Jenkins
Mikaela Jenkins (born March 11, 2003) is an American former Paralympic swimmer who represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career Jenkins made her international debut for the United States at the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships where she won a gold medal in the women's 100 metre butterfly S10 event, and silver medals in the women's freestyle relay 34pts and women's freestyle relay 34pts events. Jenkins represented the United States in the women's 100 metre butterfly S10 event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics and won a gold medal. She also competed in the women's 4×100 metre medley relay 34pts and won a gold medal. On April 14, 2022, Jenkins was named to the roster to represent the United States at the 2022 World Para Swimming Championships. The Parapan American Games is an international multi-sport event for athletes with physical disabilities held every four years after every Pan American Games. The first Games were held in 1999 in Mexico City, Mexico. The 2003 Parapan American Games was the last Parapan American Games that was not held in the same city as the Pan American Games. History The ''Evansville Courier'' was founded in 1845 by William Newton, a young attorney. Its first issue was printed two years before the city had a charter. Proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), also known as congenital femoral deficiency (CFD), is a rare, non-hereditary birth defect that affects the pelvis, particularly the hip bone, and the proximal femur. The disorder may affect one side or both, with the hip being deformed and the leg shortened. It is commonly linked with the absence or shortening of a leg bone ( fibular hemimelia) and the absence of a kneecap. Other linked birth defects include the dislocation or instability of the joint between the femur and the kneecap, a shortened tibia or fibula, and foot deformities. The 2023 World Para Swimming Championships was the 12th edition of the World Para Swimming Championships, an international swimming competition for swimmers with disabilities. It was held in Manchester, Great Britain from 31 July to 6 August 2023. This was the third time that Great Britain have hosted the World Para Swimming Championships with Glasgow hosting in 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships, 2015 and London hosting in 2019 World Para Swimming Championships, 2019. The World Championships serves as a Swimming at the 2024 Summer Paralympics – Qualification, qualifier for the 2024 Summer Paralympics where two top swimmers in each individual medal event final will be automatically selected to compete at the Paralympics.
