Mihály Mayer (bishop)
Mihály Mayer (27 December 1933 – 4 September 2000) was a Hungarian water polo player who competed in the 1956 Summer Olympics, 1960 Summer Olympics, 1964 Summer Olympics, and in the 1968 Summer Olympics. He is one of eight male athletes who won four or more Olympic medals in water polo. He was Jewish, was born in Újpest, and died in Budapest. Mayer was part of the Hungarian team which won the gold medal in the 1956 tournament. He played four matches and scored one goal. Four years later he was a member of the Hungarian team which won the bronze medal in the 1960 Olympic tournament. He played three matches and scored one goal. At the 1964 Games he won his second gold medal with the Hungarian team. He played five matches. In 1968 he won again a bronze medal when the Hungarian team finished third in the Olympic tournament. Újpest
Újpest (; , ) is the 4th District in Budapest, Hungary. It is located on the left bank of the Danube River. The name Újpest means "New Pest" because the city was formed on the border of the city of Pest, Hungary in 1838. Újpest was a village for six decades until 1907 when it became a town. In 1950, the town was unified with Budapest to form Greater Budapest. Since 1950, Újpest has been the 4th District of Budapest. Blood In The Water Match
The "Blood in the Water" match ( lit. ''Blood bath of Melbourne''; ) was a water polo match between Hungary and the USSR at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. The semi-final match took place on 6 December 1956 against the background of the recent Hungarian Revolution, and saw Hungary defeat the USSR 4–0. The name was coined after Hungarian player Ervin Zádor emerged during the last two minutes with blood pouring from above his eye after being punched by Soviet player Valentin Prokopov. Tensions were at an all-time high between the competing teams; the Soviet armed forces had violently suppressed the Hungarian Revolution just weeks before. Most of the Revolutionaries consisted of civilians, a majority factory workers and students, who constructed Molotov cocktails against the formal armed forces of the USSR.
