Miguel Malvar-class Frigate
The ''Miguel Malvar''-class frigate is a class of frigates designed and currently built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the Philippine Navy. It was previously known as the HDC-3100 corvette based on the company's product nomenclature system and the service's acquisition project name until it was reclassified to frigate "FF" and then to its current "FFG" guided-missile frigate designation. A close-in weapon system (CIWS ) is a point-defense weapon system for detecting and destroying short-range incoming missiles and enemy aircraft which have penetrated the outer defenses, typically mounted on a naval ship. Nearly all classes of larger modern warships are equipped with some kind of CIWS device. There are two types of CIWS systems. The GOKDENIZ () complex along with Aselsan ATOM 35mm airburst ammunition is an all-weather-capable Turkish 35 mm dual barrel close-in weapon system (CIWS) developed by Aselsan. The K745 Blue Shark () is a lightweight anti-submarine torpedo developed for the Republic of Korea Navy in 2004. Development The Blue Shark torpedo can be deployed from surface ships, ASW helicopters and maritime patrol aircraft. Production cost for each torpedo is at about ₩ 1,000,000,000. Blue Shark torpedoes are fitted to the Incheon class frigate (FFX). It is exported to the Philippines as part of the acquisition process for the Jose Rizal-class Frigates.
