Midkiff, Texas
Midkiff is a T-shaped Unincorporated area, unincorporated desert village in northeastern Midland County, Texas, United States. It lies along Ranch to Market Road 2401, RM 2401 and Farm to Market Road 3095, FM 3095, north of the city of Rankin, Texas, Rankin, the county seat of Upton County. Its elevation is 2,736 feet (834 m). Founded in an oil boom in the early 1950s, Midkiff was named for a former community in nearby Midland County. Its original proposed name was "Hadacol Corner", but the U.S. Postal Service objected, presumably because it disapproved of locating in a town named after a registered corporate brand name, and the founders agreed to make a change in order to have a post office. The Köppen climate classification divides Earth climates into five main climate groups, with each group being divided based on patterns of seasonal precipitation and temperature. The Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) is an American nonprofit educational and research organization dedicated to documenting the history of Texas. It was founded in Austin, Texas, United States, on March 2, 1897. In November 2008, the TSHA moved its offices from Austin to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Hadacol
Hadacol was a patent medicine marketed as a vitamin supplement. Its principal attraction, however, was that it contained 12 percent alcohol (listed on the tonic bottle's label as a "preservative"), which made it quite popular in the dry counties of the southern United States. It was the product of four-term Louisiana State Legislature, Louisiana State Senator Dudley J. LeBlanc, a Democrat from Erath, Louisiana, Erath in Vermilion Parish in southwestern Louisiana. Rankin, Texas
Rankin is a city in and the county seat of Upton County, Texas, United States. Its population was 780 at the 2020 census. It is named after F.E. Rankin, a local rancher. In 2020, only 3,308 people lived in the entire county, and McCamey was the only larger town. During the early 20th century, the town grew due to the discovery of oil in the nearby Yates Oil Field.
