Middleback Range, South Australia
Middleback Range is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the north east corner of Eyre Peninsula to the south-west of the city of Whyalla and extending from the coastline of Spencer Gulf in the east to the west side of the southern end of the Middleback Range in the west. Its boundaries were created on 26 April 2013 while its name which is ultimately derived from the mountain range of the same name reflects the use of a “long established local name”. Its boundaries were again adjusted in 2014 in association with the creation of the new locality of Cultana. Middleback Range is located within the federal Division of Grey, the state electoral district of Giles and with part of its eastern side being within the boundary of local government area of the City of Whyalla and the western side being within the Pastoral Unincorporated Area of South Australia. Whyalla
Whyalla was founded as "Hummocks Hill", and was known by that name until 1916. It is the fourth most populous city in the Australian state of South Australia after Adelaide, Mount Gambier and Gawler and along with Port Pirie and Port Augusta is one of the three towns to make up the Iron Triangle. Whyalla - Cowleds Landing Aquatic Reserve
__NOTOC__ Whyalla-Cowleds Landing Aquatic Reserve is a marine protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located in the waters of Spencer Gulf adjoining the east coast of Eyre Peninsula. About south of Whyalla, it includes land in the localities of Cowleds Landing and Middleback Range which is subject to tidal inundation. It was declared in 1984 to protect "the mangrove-seagrass communities and associated fish nursery areas". Since 2012, it has been located within the boundaries of a 'sanctuary zone' in the Upper Spencer Gulf Marine Park. The aquatic reserve is classified as an IUCN Category II protected area. Lincoln Highway is a highway in South Australia which links the cities of Port Augusta and Port Lincoln located on the east coast of Eyre Peninsula over a distance of . Lincoln Highway - along with Flinders Highway - presents an alternative but somewhat longer coastal route between Ceduna and Port Augusta, compared to the more direct route along Eyre Highway. It is designated route B100. Route After leaving Port Augusta, the highway passes through hot and arid saltbush-covered and scrub terrain. Middleback Range
The Middleback Range is a mountain range on the eastern side of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. The Middleback Range has been a source of iron ore for over a century, particularly to feed the Whyalla Steelworks. Mines in the region were first developed by BHP from the 1890s and are now owned and operated by Liberty House Group. Geography The Middleback Range extends from Iron Knob at the northern end near the Eyre Highway to the Lincoln Highway, halfway between Whyalla and Cowell at its southern extent. The Ironstone Hill Conservation Park is immediately west of the southern part of the ranges. Geology The Middleback Range is part of the Cleve Subdomain of the Gawler Craton. Eyre Peninsula
The Eyre Peninsula is a triangular peninsula in South Australia. It is bounded by the Spencer Gulf on the east, the Great Australian Bight on the west, and the Gawler Ranges to the north.
