Middle Swan is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, and forms part of the City of Swan local government area. The suburb is bordered to the west by the Swan River. The suburb is most notable for its various wineries, including Nikola Estate that was once known as Houghton and Sandalford. City Of Swan
The City of Swan is a local government area of Western Australia. It is in the eastern metropolitan region of Perth and includes the Swan Valley and 42 suburbs. It is centred approximately 20 km north-east of the Perth central business district. The City covers an area of 1,042 km² (which is 19.4% of the Perth Metro area) and had an estimated population of 155,653 in 2020. 32.7% of the City of Swan population was born overseas, compared with 36.1% for Greater Perth. Swan River (Western Australia)
The Swan River () is a river in the south west of Western Australia. The river runs through the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia's capital and largest city. Course of river The Swan River estuary flows through the city of Perth. Its lower reaches are relatively wide and deep, with few constrictions, while the upper reaches are usually quite narrow and shallow. The Swan River drains the Avon and coastal plain catchments, which have a total area of about . It has three major tributaries, the Avon River, Canning River and Helena River. The latter two have dams (Canning Dam and Mundaring Weir) which provide a sizeable part of the potable water requirements for Perth and the regions surrounding. William Mitchell (missionary)
William Mitchell (20 November 1803 – 3 August 1870) was a Church of England priest who was the second ordained person, after Louis Giustiniani, to provide religious services in the Swan Valley area of the Swan River Colony. He worked in the Swan Parish for over 20 years before moving to Perth to take up a position working with convicts and prisoners in the Perth Gaol in Beaufort Street. Mitchell was the first rector of the Swan Parish, an area which extended north to Gingin and Chittering and east to Toodyay and York. The southern boundary included Guildford and Midland. Early life and India Mitchell was born in County Monaghan, Ireland. He and his three brothers were orphaned as young children after his father, William Mitchell, was reputedly killed in Dublin riots (his mother's cause and date of death is uncertain). Simon Katich
Simon Matthew Katich (born 21 August 1975) is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer. He captained New South Wales and also, until the end of the 2007 season, Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Katich also played for Lancashire, represented his birth state of Western Australia and played in Indian Premier League for Kings XI Punjab. He played primarily as a left-handed opening batter and part-time left-arm unorthodox spin bowler. He played 56 Test matches for Australia from 2001 to 2011. On 12 June 2012 Katich retired from first-class cricket in Australia, but returned to play for Western Australia in 2013. In August 2019, Katich was appointed as the Head Coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore, and was present at the 2020 IPL Player Auction in Kolkata in December 2019. Governor Stirling Senior High School
Governor Stirling Senior High School (abbreviated as GSSHS) is a public co-educational partially selective high day school, located in Woodbridge, a north-eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. The school provides both a vocational and tertiary entrance education for students from Year 7 to Year 12. Opened in 1959, the school replaced the former Midland Junction High School (MJHS) founded in 1901, at a new site in West Midland. __NOTOC__ Sandalford Wines is a privately owned Australian winery business based at Caversham, in the Swan Valley, the focal point of the Swan District wine region of Western Australia. Sandalford owns and operates wineries and vineyards both in Caversham and at Wilyabrup, in Western Australia's Margaret River wine region. The company traces its origins back to 1840, when John Septimus Roe, the first Surveyor-General of the Swan River Colony, was granted on the banks of the Swan River by Queen Victoria, in recognition of his services to the colony. In the same year, Captain Roe planted Western Australia's first vines at the property, which he named Sandalford after an estate owned by his family on the site of a priory built in 1066.
