Michael Lowry (politician)
Michael Lowry (born 13 March 1953) is an Irish independent politician who has served as a Teachta Dála (TD) since 1987, currently for the Tipperary North constituency. He previously served as Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications from 1994 to 1996 and Chair of the Fine Gael parliamentary party from 1993 to 1994. Lowry is a former chair of the Fine Gael party and was Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications between 1994 and 1996. He resigned from his ministry in some controversy. Fine Gael barred him from standing for the party again. Thereafter he ran as an Independent candidate and has maintained his seat in the Dáil ever since. The Moriarty Tribunal concluded "beyond doubt" that Lowry was a tax evader and had assisted businessman Denis O'Brien's Esat Digifone consortium in acquiring a lucrative mobile phone licence in the mid-1990s, during Lowry's time as Communications Minister. Michael Lowry (rugby Union)
Michael Lowry (born 20 August 1998) is an Irish rugby union player from Northern Ireland who plays fullback and out-half for United Rugby Championship and European Rugby Champions Cup side Ulster, and internationally for Ireland. Doubted early on because of his small stature, he has exceptional footwork and acceleration. Ireland coach Andy Farrell describes him as a "nightmare" to play against, praising his explosiveness and bravery. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Lowry attended Royal Belfast Academical Institution and captained the school to a Medallion Shield and three Ulster Schools' Cups in a row between 2015 and 2017, and represented Ulster at under-17, under-18 and under-19 level, as well as Ireland at under-19 level. Michael Edward Lowry (March 8, 1939 – May 1, 2017) was an American politician who served as the 20th governor of Washington from 1993 to 1997. His political career ended when his deputy press secretary, Susanne Albright, made accusations of sexual misconduct against him. A member of the Democratic Party, Lowry served as a United States Representative from Washington's 7th congressional district from 1979 to 1989, and unsuccessfully ran for U.S. Senate in 1983 and 1988. Early life Lowry was born and raised in St. John, Washington, son of Helen (nee White) and Robert Lowry. He graduated from Washington State University in 1962. Mick Lowry
Mick Lowry (born 8 October 1960) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer whose league and championship career with the Offaly senior county team spanned eleven seasons from 1980 to 1991. Lowry attended St Joseph & St Saran's Secondary School in Ferbane. He made his senior debut for Offaly during the 1980–81 league. Over the course of the next eleven seasons, he won many medals with his county. Lowry won an All-Ireland SFC title in 1982. Lowry also won two Leinster SFC medals. He played his last game for Offaly in July 1991. Lowry's brothers, Seán and Brendan, also won All-Ireland SFC medals with Offaly in 1982. His nephew, Shane, is a professional golfer.
