Michael Conlan (boxer)
Michael John Conlan (born 19 November 1991) is an Irish professional boxer from Belfast. A world, European and Commonwealth champion and Olympic bronze medallist. Conlon turned professional in 2016 after the 2016 Olympic Games after controversy over his loss. He was RTÉ Sports Person of the Year in 2015. Early life Conlan was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. His father and coach, John, hails from Drimnagh, Dublin. His elder brother, Jamie, was also a professional boxer. Amateur career Domestic Conlan won his first Ulster novice title at the age of 11, and is a three-time Irish national flyweight champion. Boxing At The 2014 Commonwealth Games – Bantamweight
The Bantamweight boxing competition at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland took place between 25 July and 2 August at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. Bantamweights were limited to those boxers weighing above 52 kilograms to 56 kilograms. Like all Commonwealth boxing events, the competition was a straight single-elimination tournament. Both semifinal losers were awarded bronze medals, so no boxers competed again after their first loss. Bouts consisted of three rounds of three minutes each, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Punches scored only if the front of the glove made full contact with the front of the head or torso of the opponent. Andrew Selby (born 25 December 1988) is a Welsh professional boxer who held the British flyweight title from 2016 to 2019. As an amateur, he won a silver medal at the 2011 World Championships, Bronze at the 2013 World Championships, and gold at the 2011 and 2013 European Championships, all in the flyweight division. He is the younger brother of former featherweight world champion Lee Selby. Nordine Oubaali (Arabic: نوردين أوبالي) (born 4 August 1986) is a Moroccan-French former professional boxer who competed from 2014 to 2021. He held the WBC bantamweight title from 2019 to 2021. As an amateur he won a bronze medal in the light-flyweight division at the 2007 World Championships. Amateur career Oubaali is the 13th child of 18 siblings in total. Duke Akueteh Micah (born 16 September 1991) is a Ghanaian professional boxer who challenged for the WBO bantamweight title in September 2020. At regional level, he held multiple bantamweight titles, including the Commonwealth title in 2016. As an amateur he represented Ghana at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Jamie Conlan (born 10 October 1986) is a former professional boxer from Northern Ireland who competed from 2009 to 2017, and has since worked as a boxing manager. He held the Commonwealth super-flyweight title in 2016 and challenged for the IBF super-flyweight title in 2017. He is the older brother of professional boxer Michael Conlan. Drimnagh
Drimnagh () is a suburb in Dublin, Ireland. It lies to the south of the city between Walkinstown, Crumlin and Inchicore, bordered by the Grand Canal to the north and east. Drimnagh is in postal district Dublin 12. Drimnagh is in a townland and civil parish of the same name, in the barony of Uppercross. History Early to medieval Drimnagh derives its name from the word ''druimneach'', or country with ridges. A Neolithic settlement discovered and a funerary bowl found in a burial site.
