Mian (surname)
Mian or miyan is a royal title of the Indian subcontinent, also sometimes used as a surname. ''Begum or Beygum, is used to describe the wife of a Mian. It is used by several monarchs of Indian states.'' In the Mughal Empire, ''mian'' indicated a king or a prince under the suzerainty of the Mughal emperor; it is hence roughly equivalent to the title of ''raja'', but could also take the higher meaning of ''maharaja'', in which sense it was used by the Kalhora dynasty of Sindh. Mian (tribe)
The Mian ( ur, ) is a Pakistani noble Arain family who were the owner of Ishaqpura region, the territory where Mughal Empire wanted to build a Garden named as Shalimar in Lahore. The family was ranked at authorities by Mughals for their services for the community. The Mughal emperors were attribute them and gave family the title of 'Mian' from Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Mian Muhammad Yousaf, then family head, gifted his ancestral land to emperor in lieu of a garden. The project was finished by 1642 AD and emperor Shah Jahan had granted the area back to same family as being the custodians of the site. Since that day to Ayub Khan's martial law the Shalimar Garden was under the care of same family. With passage of time their extended family also adopted Mian title. By 20th century off-shoots of Arain tribe associated with Mian Family also self-adopted Mian title as their sir name by 20th century now commonly referred as Mian Baradari (community or sub-tribe) in general. Mian Language
Mian is an Ok language spoken in the Telefomin district of the Sandaun province in Papua New Guinea by the Mian people. It has some 3,500 speakers spread across two dialects: ''West Mian'' (a.k.a. ''Suganga''), with approximately 1,000 speakers in around Yapsiei, and ''East Mian'', with approximately 2,500 speakers in and around Timeilmin, Temsakmin, Sokamin, Gubil, Fiak and Hotmin. Phonology Phonologically, Mian is very similar to other Papuan languages in the size of its phoneme inventory, but it nevertheless has some peculiarities, such as its contrast between a plain and a pharyngealized ˤ It is also a tonal language. Mian Channu
Mian Channu, alternately spelled Mian Chunnun, is the capital city of Mian Channu Tehsil in Khanewal District, Punjab province of Pakistan. Etymology The city was named after a Sufi saint, Baba Mian Channu, who had lived there at one point. After his death, he was buried there. There is an urban legend about the name; it is believed that during the British rule, administration attempted to change the name of the city. They painted all boards with the new name. However, an unknown vandal changed the boards back to the original name. They tried repeatedly in vain, and since then, the name of the city remained 'Mian Channu'. Mian People
The Mian people (Mianmin) are a people living in the Telefomin district of the Sandaun province in Papua New Guinea. The number of Mian is 3,500, based on the number of speakers of their language, Mian. The Mian are living in small villages in mountainous areas with rainforest and rivers; conditions which makes transport very limited, almost only restricted to walking, which however have helped them retaining their traditional way of life, based on hunting and agriculture, including slash-and-burn. They grow sweet potatoes, sago, bananas, pineapples, breadfruits, pawpaw, sugarcanes, pumpkins and squashes, and in more recent times, also oranges, tomatoes, beans, peanuts and coconuts. Mian Family Of Baghbanpura
Belonging to the Arain tribe of Punjab region, they are an aristocratic noble family originally from Areha Jericho Modern Palestine who entered in Indian Subcontinent with Umayyad Arab General Muhammad bin Qasim. The family has made great contributions to the region since 711A.D and owned the land near Baghbanpura on which the Shalimar Gardens (Lahore) were built. The land was handed to the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan and in return custodianship of the Shalimar Gardens, Lahore was granted to the family in 1641. Mian County
Mian County or Mianxian () is a county of Hanzhong, in the southwest of Shaanxi province, China, bordering Gansu province to the northwest. Its area measures , and its total population as of 2020 was 429,000 people. During the Qin and Han dynasty it was known as Mianshui (沔水). In 1964 it was renamed to Mianxian with a homophone character for Mian, to avoid the use of uncommon characters in place names. In 2020, the county government requested the name of the county to be changed to ''Mianzhou'' (沔州市), pending central government approval. Mian Wali Qureshian (میاوالی قریشیاں) is a town in Rahim Yar Khan District, Punjab, Pakistan. It was founded more than 450 years ago by Makhdoom Rohullah Shah I. The language spoken is Saraiki language. Description Mian Wali Qureshian is located at KLP Road, 33 km away from Rahim Yar Khan city. Its location near the N5 National Highway has made it an important pit-stop on Pakistan's domestic trade route and the town has been characterised by its rolling mango and sugar-cane plantations. Mian Quan
Mian Quan (literally "Cotton Fist") is a northern Chinese martial arts style which most likely originated in the province of Hebei. There is no definite given record of the creator or origin of the style. The theory for this style is that defense becomes offense and softness turns to hardness, and the practitioner's attacks always follow after the opponent's. Soft attacks gain the upper hand for a practitioner and sets up the opponent for a harder, more dominant array of movements. It was one of the wushu styles demonstrated at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany.
