Međeđa (Višegrad)

Međeđa is located in the Međeđa gorge, which is for the most part flooded by the water reservoir, created for the Višegrad hydroelectric power plant. The Bosnian Eastern Railway from Sarajevo to Uvac and Vardište was built through Međeđa during the Austro-Hungarian rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Construction of the line started in 1903. It was completed in 1906, using the track gauge. With the cost of 75 million gold crowns, which approximately translates to 450 thousand gold crowns per kilometer, it was one of the most expensive railways in the world built by that time. East Bosnian Railway
Most Bosnian-gauge railway lines were built during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Several gauge railways were planned in order to link the extensive narrow-gauge railways in the Austro-Hungarian Empire with those in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Until the outbreak of the Balkan Wars in 1912 several were constructed. Between World War I and World War II the network was extended significantly, at the end connecting the Adriatic Coast with Belgrade, with the network growing to around 1500 km in length. Construction of a new standard-gauge line from Sarajevo to Ploče on the Adriatic in 1966 replaced the Narentabahn ( Narenta railway) from Sarajevo to the coast and had the effect of isolating the south-western narrow-gauge system from the railways starting at Sarajevo. Priboj
Priboj ( sr-Cyrl, Прибој, ) is a town and municipality located in the Zlatibor District of southwestern Serbia. The population of the town is 13,172, while the population of the municipality is 23,514. Geography The municipality of Priboj is located between municipality of Čajetina in the north, municipality of Nova Varoš in the east, municipality of Prijepolje in the south-east, the border with Montenegro in the south-west, and the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the north-west. Track Gauge
In rail transport, track gauge is the distance between the two rails of a railway track. All vehicles on a rail network must have Wheelset (rail transport), wheelsets that are compatible with the track gauge. Since many different track gauges exist worldwide, gauge differences often present a barrier to wider operation on railway networks. The term derives from the metal bar, or gauge, that is used to ensure the distance between the rails is correct. Railways also deploy two other gauges to ensure compliance with a required standard. Bosnia and Herzegovina fell under Austria-Hungary, Austro-Hungarian rule in 1878, when the Congress of Berlin approved the occupation of the Bosnia Vilayet, which officially remained part of the Ottoman Empire. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the smallest administrative unit is the municipality ("''opština''/општина" or "''općina''/опћина" in the official languages and scripts of the country).
