Messukylä (, also ) is a former municipality of Finland which was annexed by the city of Tampere in 1947. The medieval stone church (built c. 1540) in Messukylä is the oldest building in Tampere. During the Civil War (1918), Messukylä was the scene of heavy battles around both the medieval and new churches. History Messukylä was first mentioned in 1439, when it was a part of Pirkkala. The village of Takahuhti is even older, its area has had permanent inhabitants before the 14th century. Tampere is a city in Finland and the regional capital of Pirkanmaa. It is located in the Finnish Lakeland. Takahuhti
Takahuhti is a district in Tampere, Finland. It is located in eastern part of the city, close to Atala, Linnainmaa, Kissanmaa and Messukylä. There are many prehistoric residences and finds in the area. Takahuhti was the largest village in Messukylä from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The Battle of Tampere was also fought in Takahuhti during the 1918 civil war. The area is dominated by detached houses and there is a school built in 1939. Historian and professor Unto Salo, has concluded from the ancient discoveries that the village of Takahuhti has been inhabited since the Iron Age and that there were four houses in the village at that time. Four Iron Age cemeteries are known from the village's area of influence, the Kartanonsaari, Kukkoinkivi, Veijanmäki and Pappula cemeteries. Aitolahti
Aitolahti (; now forms the Tampere subdivision under the name Aito) is a former municipality in Pirkanmaa region, Finland. It was consolidated in 1966 with Tampere, and at the same time Tampere got new districts: Sorila, Nurmi and Aitoniemi. Until 1947, the neighboring municipalities of Aitolahti included Messukylä, which was consolidated with the city of Tampere. Highway 9 ( E63) between Tampere and Jyväskylä and the regional road 338 between Tampere and Ruovesi pass through Aitolahti. The old Aitolahti municipal center was Sorila. The densest population is in the southern parts of the region, in the districts of Olkahinen and Nurmi. Felix (Feliks) Emil Kellosalmi (3 June 1877, Messukylä - 28 March 1939; surname until 1908 ''Pettersson''; name as Soviet citizen ''Феликс Петрович Келлосальми'') was a Finnish typesetter and politician. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1909 to 1911 and again from 1917 to 1918, representing the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP). He sided with the Reds during the Finnish Civil War and after the defeat of the Red side he went into exile in Soviet Russia. He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and settled in the Karelian ASSR, where he worked as a journalist, as a teacher, as a translator and in other functions. He was expelled from the Communist Party on 16 October 1935 and arrested by the NKVD on 21 October 1935. He was set free on 5 February 1936 because of his weakened state of health. Karl (Kalle) Aleksander Suosalo (9 February 1869 – 2 March 1918; original surname ''Johansson'') was a Finnish baker and politician. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1916 to 1917, representing the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP). Suosalo was born in Messukylä. When the Finnish Civil War broke out on 27 January 1918, he was living in Jakobstad, where the White side established control in the first days of the war. Suosalo had not taken part in any actual hostilities, but he was arrested on 15 February as a supporter of the Red side. He was sentenced to death in a drumhead court-martial and shot in Jakobstad on 2 March 1918 together with six other men, accused of having taken part in an alleged plot to blow up the Jakobstad Artillery School.
