Menlo Avenue–West Twenty-ninth Street Historic District
The Menlo Avenue–West Twenty-ninth Street Historic District is a historic district in the North University Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, which is itself part of the city's West Adams district. The area consists of late Victorian and Craftsman-style homes dating back to 1896. The area is bounded by West Adams Boulevard on the north, Ellendale on the east, West Thirtieth Street on the south, and Vermont Avenue to the west. The district is noted for its well-preserved period architecture, reflecting the transition from late Victorian and shingle-styles to the American Craftsman style that took hold in Southern California in the early 1900s. West Adams is a neighborhood in the South Los Angeles region of Los Angeles, California. Abraham Wesley Eager
Abraham Wesley Eager (1864–1930) was a Canadian-born American architect. He designed many houses in Los Angeles, California. Early life Abraham Wesley Eager was born in 1864 in Hamilton, Canada West. He moved to California in 1887, and settled in Los Angeles, California in 1901. Career Eager designed the Auditorium in Torrance, California, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With Sumner Hunt and Silas Reese Burns, he designed the private residence of William G. Kerckhoff located at 1325 West Adams Boulevard, Exposition Park, Los Angeles in 1908–1909. Sumner Hunt
Sumner P. Hunt (Brooklyn, New York state, May 8, 1865 – Los Angeles, California, November 19, 1938) was an architect in Los Angeles from 1888 to the 1930s. On January 21, 1892, he married Mary Hancock Chapman. They had a daughter Louise Hunt. Life and career Hunt initially apprenticed with and worked for Clarence B. Cutler in Troy, New York from 1879–1887, and in his later career made claim to having worked in Cutler's office in New York City from 1888 to 1889. However, New York City directories make no mention of a Sumner Hunt as city resident and do not include a business listing for Clarence Cutler Architects during those two years. The 1888 Los Angeles City Directory lists Hunt as a resident, living in a rooming house on the east side of Hill Street north of Fifth Street.
