This is a list of members of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1929 to 1932, as elected at the 1929 state election. Several realignments took place during the period: * The Country Progressive Party re-merged with the Country Party in 1930. Harold Glowrey remained as an Independent. * The Nationalist Party was renamed the United Australia Party (UAP) on 15 September 1931, to match the situation at federal level. * During the 1932 election campaign, several Labor members, including the premier, Edmond Hogan, were expelled from the Victorian Labor Party for supporting the Premiers' Plan. : In August 1930, the Nationalist member for Hawthorn, former premier William Murray McPherson, resigned. Stanley Argyle
Sir Stanley Seymour Argyle KBE, MRCS, LRCP (4 December 1867 – 23 November 1940), was an Australian radiologist and politician. He served as premier of Victoria from 1932 to 1935 and was the state leader of the Nationalist Party and United Australia Party from 1930 until his death in 1940. Early life Argyle was born in Kyneton, Colony of Victoria in 1867 to Edward Argyle, a grazier from England, and Mary Clark. He was educated at the Kyneton School, Hawthorn Grammar School, and Brighton Grammar School before attending Trinity College at the University of Melbourne, where he graduated in medicine. He went on to study bacteriology at King's College London. Political career After further study in the United Kingdom, he went into general practice in Kew and was later a pioneer of radiology in Australia. Murray Bourchier
Brigadier Sir Murray William James Bourchier, CMG, DSO, VD (4 April 1881 – 16 December 1937) was an Australian soldier and politician. He was Deputy Premier of Victoria from April 1935 until June 1936. Early life Murray was the eldest son of Edward and Francis Bourchier, owners of the Woodland Park property near Strathmerton, Victoria. He was educated privately in Melbourne and afterwards worked at Woodland Park. Military career World War I Bourchier commanded a CMF light horse troop at Numurkah, Victoria from 1909 to 1914. At the outbreak of World War I he was commissioned into the 4th Light Horse Regiment and left with the first contingent of the First Australian Imperial Force. He served with the regiment in the Gallipoli, Egyptian, Sinai, Palestine and Syrian campaigns. Ernie Bond (politician)
Ernest Edward "Ernie" Bond (29 June 1897 – 25 July 1984) was an Australian politician. He was born in Heywood, Victoria, Heywood to rural worker Robert Bond and Sarah Jane Mullens. He attended Geelong High School and became a schoolteacher at Lavers Hill, Victoria, Lavers Hill and Heywood, and then head teacher at Greenwald, Victoria, Greenwald and Condah, Victoria, Condah. On 20 July 1923 he married Ethel Thomas, with whom he had three children. A member of the Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), Labor Party's Heywood branch from the age of seventeen, he won a by-election for the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Electoral district of Glenelg (Victoria), Glenelg in 1924; he transferred to Electoral district of Port Fairy and Glenelg, Port Fairy and Glenelg in 1927. Maurice Blackburn
Maurice McCrae Blackburn (19 November 1880 – 31 March 1944) was an Australian politician and socialist lawyer, noted for his protection of the interests of workers and the establishment of the legal firm known as Maurice Blackburn Lawyers. Early life Blackburn was born on 19 November 1880 in Inglewood, Victoria. He was the son of Thomasann Cole (née McCrae) and Maurice Blackburn. His father, a bank manager, was the son of architect James Blackburn. Following the death of his father in 1887, Blackburn and his mother moved to Melbourne where he was educated at Melbourne Grammar School, matriculating in 1896. He attended the University of Melbourne, graduating in arts and law in 1909, and began to practise as a lawyer a year later. In the same year, he also became a member of the Victorian Socialist Party and was soon editing its newspaper, ''The Socialist''. Later, in about 1908, he joined the Australian Labor Party. The electoral district of Gippsland West was an Victorian Legislative Assembly electoral districts, electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria (Australia), Victoria. Matthew Bennett (politician)
Matthew Bennett (20 January 1862 – 16 January 1951) was an Australian politician. He was born at Carngham, Victoria, Carngham to farmer Joseph Bennett and Elizabeth Ann Temby. He became a farmer at Benjeroop, Victoria, Benjeroop, and on 31 October 1889 married Mary Simpson, with whom he had four daughters. Around 1906 he moved to Yannathan, Victoria, Yannathan. An active member of the National Party of Australia – Victoria, Country Party since its foundation, he served on Shire of Kooweerup, Kooweerup Shire Council from 1925 to 1951 and was president from 1931 to 1932 and from 1941 to 1942. In 1929 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly in a by-election for Electoral district of Gippsland West, Gippsland West. He served until his retirement in 1950. Bennett died at Malvern, Victoria, Malvern in 1951, and was buried at Brighton General Cemetery.
