This is a list of members of the 24th Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1926 to 1929, as elected at the 1926 state election held on 8 May 1926. : On 2 May 1927, the Labor member for Balonne, Edward Land, died. Labor candidate Samuel Brassington won the resulting by-election on 6 August 1927. : On 5 December 1927, the CPNP member for Stanley, Frederick Lancelot Nott, died. CPNP candidate Ernest Grimstone won the resulting by-election on 25 February 1928. : On 24 January 1928, the Labor member for Mitchell, John Payne, died. Labor candidate Richard Bow won the resulting by-election on 26 May 1928. : On 16 August 1928, the CPNP member for Burnett, Bernard Corser, resigned to run for the federal seat of Wide Bay. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the '' Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). The Assembly first sat in May 1860 and produced Australia's first Hansard in April 1864. Electoral District Of Fassifern
Fassifern was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1992. It was based on the area south of Ipswich and stretched toward the New South Wales border, although in subsequent redistributions was reduced in size away from the growing Brisbane area. It was named after the Fassifern Valley. Fassifern was a safe Country/National district for most of its existence. It was abolished in the 1991 redistribution under the Goss government, and was largely replaced by the new district of Beaudesert. Frank Bulcock
Frank William Bulcock (6 June 1892 – 19 January 1973) was an Australian politician. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Bulcock was born at Mount Arapiles, near Horsham, Victoria in 1892 to Thomas Bulcock and his wife Eliza Mackay (née Grove). After completing his schooling at local schools he studied veterinary science at Sydney Technical College and won a Department of Agriculture bursary to Wagga Wagga Experiment Farm. Electoral District Of Kennedy
Kennedy was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. History In 1864, the ''Additional Members Act'' created six additional electoral districts, each returning 1 member: * Clermont * Kennedy * Maryborough * Mitchell * Rockhampton * Warrego The first elections in these six electorates were held in 1865 (that is, during a parliamentary term and not as part of a general election across Queensland). The nomination date for the election in Kennedy was 18 February 1865 and the election was held on 18 March 1865. When first constituted, Kennedy covered an area from Cardwell to Mackay, west to the Great Dividing Range, taking in the entire Burdekin River system. The district covered the north Queensland coast from Mackay to Hinchinbrook Island. It was named for the explorer Edmund Kennedy. Harry Bruce (politician)
Henry Adam Bruce (16 May 1884 – 11 October 1958), known as Harry Bruce, was an Australian politician and former union organiser. First entering state politics in Queensland before later entering Parliament of the Commonwealth. Biography Born in Wandiligong, Victoria, he was educated at Haileybury College in Melbourne before moving to Queensland to become a bushworker in 1902. Later, he was a sugar grower and an organiser of the Australian Workers' Union (AWU). In 1923 Bruce was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as the Labor member for the district of Kennedy. In 1932, he was elected as member for The Tableland. In that year he was appointed Secretary of Public Works; in 1938 he was also made Secretary of Public Instruction, a position he held until 1941. In 1947 he was transferred from Public Works to Public Instruction. During this time, the Bruce Highway was named in his honour. Electoral District Of Balonne
Balonne was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1932, and again from 1950 to 1992. It was named after the Balonne River. Balonne was generally centered on the inland rural towns of St George and Dirranbandi. Balonne was abolished in the 1991 redistribution, and was distributed between the new electorate of Western Downs and the existing district of Warrego. Samuel Brassington
Samuel John Brassington (6 May 1901 – 4 October 1950) was an Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, serving as the member for Balonne from 1927 to 1932 and for Fortitude Valley from 1933 to 1950. Burnett is an electoral division of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in central Queensland, Australia. It covers most of the coastal region south of Gladstone, as well as coastal and inland regions completely surrounding the district of Bundaberg. Towns within its boundaries include Miriam Vale, Agnes Water, Rosedale, Bargara, Woodgate and Childers. The Burnett River flows through the electoral district, hence its name. Robert Livingstone Boyd (11 December 1885 – 30 May 1951) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Boyd was born at "Lara", on the Logan River in Queensland, the son of Robert Boyd Snr. and his wife May (née McDonald). He was educated at St Mark's School and then Brisbane Grammar School before working as a jackeroo at Bromelton. Mitchell was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland, Australia. History The electoral district of Mitchell was created by the Additional Members Act of 1864 which introduced six new single-member electorates. A by-election was held to fill the seat. The nomination date was 18 March 1865 and the election was held on 25 March 1865. In 1885, part of Mitchell was removed to form the new Electoral district of Barcoo. In 1931, a redistribution absorbed Mitchell into the Electoral district of Barcoo and the Electoral district of Gregory.
