Meidling
Meidling () is the 12th district of Vienna (). It is located just southwest of the central districts, south of the River Wien, west of the Gürtel belt, and east and southeast of Schönbrunn Palace. Schönbrunn Palace
Schönbrunn Palace (Austrian German, German: Schloss Schönbrunn ) was the main summer residence of the House of Habsburg, Habsburg rulers, located in Hietzing, the 13th district of Vienna. The name ''Schönbrunn'' (meaning "beautiful spring") has its roots in an artesian well from which water was consumed by the court. The 1,441-room Baroque architecture, Baroque palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historic monuments in the country. Sebastian Kurz
Sebastian Kurz (; born 27 August 1986) is an Austrian former politician who served twice as Chancellor of Austria, first from 2017 to 2019 and then again from 2020 to 2021. Kurz was born and raised in Meidling, Vienna. He entered politics by joining the Young People's Party (JVP) in 2003 and rose through the ranks there over the following years. As a result of a cabinet reshuffle in 2011, Kurz received his first government mandate as state secretary responsible for socially integrating refugees. After the 2013 legislative election, Kurz became the country's foreign minister and remained its top diplomat until December 2017. The districts of Vienna ( German: ''Wiener Gemeindebezirke'') are the 23 named city sections of Vienna, Austria, which are numbered for easy reference. They were created from 1850 onwards, when the city area was enlarged by the inclusion of surrounding communities. Theresienbad
The Theresienbad is a complex of indoor and outdoor swimming pools in the Meidling district of urban Vienna. It includes an indoor pool with a sauna, a steam bath (and former public bath Public baths originated when most people in population centers did not have access to private bathing facilities. There is a heated paddling pool for children. Gürtel, Vienna
The Gürtel () is a substantial beltway of Vienna. Running parallel to the famous Vienna Ring Road, it encompasses the inner city districts (''Innenbezirke'') and follows the route of the former '' Linienwall'' outer fortification. The city's red-light district is situated around the Gürtel. History The Gürtel was laid out from 1873 at the site of the former '' Linienwall'' fortification, built under Emperor Leopold I at the beginning of the 18th century to protect his residence from kuruc invasions in the course of Rákóczi's War for Independence. After World War I, the road became the construction site for several public housing estates ('' Gemeindebauten'') in the era of Red Vienna. Wien (river)
The Wien is a river that flows through the capital of Austria, Vienna. Geography The river Wien is long, of which are within the city. Its drainage basin covers an area of , both in the city and in the neighbouring Vienna Woods. Its source lies in the western Vienna Woods near Rekawinkel and its mouth at the eastern end of the city centre of Vienna, next to the Urania, where it flows into the Donaukanal ("Danube Canal"), a branch of the Danube. The Wien is subject to huge variations in flow. In its headwaters in the Vienna Woods, the soil is underlain by sandstone. Because of this, during heavy rain the soil quickly saturates, resulting in substantial runoff. Thus, the flow of the Wien can quickly increase from a creek-like to in the heaviest rains or during the spring snowmelt in the Vienna Woods, a ratio of over 1:2000. Klosterneuburg
Klosterneuburg () is a town in the Tulln District of the Austrian state of Lower Austria. Frequently abbreviated to Kloburg by locals, it has a population of about 27,500. The Stift Klosterneuburg ( Klosterneuburg Monastery), which was established in 1114 and soon after given to the Augustinians, is of particular historical importance.
