Perry County, Ohio
Perry County is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 35,408. Its county seat is New Lexington. It was established on March 1, 1818, from parts of Fairfield, Washington and Muskingum counties. The county is named for Oliver Hazard Perry, a hero of the War of 1812. Perry County is included in the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. One of the poorest counties in the state, this is where the lawsuit challenging Ohio's school funding system, '' DeRolph v. Ohio State Route 669
State Route 669 (SR 669) is an east–west state highway in Perry and Morgan Counties in the US state of Ohio. The western terminus of SR 669 is at an intersection with SR 13, southeast of Somerset. The eastern terminus of SR 669 at an intersection with SR 37 and SR 78. Most of the route is a rural two-lane highway and passes through woodland, farmland, and residential properties. For some of its path, SR 669 runs generally parallel to the west of Muskingum River. SR 669 was commissioned in 1937, along a similar route to today. The highway was extended to its current western terminus in 1938. The entire route was paved by the mid-1950s. Route description SR 669 begins at a T-intersection with SR 13, southeast of Somerset. John Wesley Iliff
John Wesley Iliff Sr. (December 18, 1831 – February 9, 1878) was a Colorado cattle rancher who is the namesake of the Iliff School of Theology in Denver. Biography Iliff was born on December 18, 1831, in McLuney, Ohio to Salome Reed and Thomas Iliff. He attended Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio but did not graduate. In 1857, at the age of twenty-six, his father gave him $500 in cash, and he moved to Ohio City, Kansas, where he opened a retail store. In 1859, gold was discovered in Colorado. He moved to Denver, Colorado to open a new retail store on Blake Street, trading supplies for livestock from new immigrants, then fattening them on the open range and using the profits to buy land in northeast Colorado, creating the largest ranch in Colorado history, where he raised as many as 35,000 heads a year to sell to Union Pacific construction crews, becoming a millionaire known as "the Cattle King of the Plains", leaving his fortune to found Iliff School of Theology.
