McGrath Cup
The McGrath Cup is a Gaelic football competition played each January in Munster Munster ( or ) is the largest of the four provinces of Ireland, located in the south west of the island. Several college teams previously participated but, from 2016, only county teams compete. Trophy Joe McGrath donated the trophy to the Munster Council in 1981 for the promotion of Gaelic football. The 2024 McGrath Cup is an inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Munster, played by all six GAA county teams, county teams in January 2024. were the winners. Format The teams are drawn into two groups of three teams. Each team plays the other teams in its group once, earning 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw. The two group winners play in the final. Cork Institute of Technology (CIT; ) was an Institutes of technology in the Republic of Ireland, institute of technology, located in Cork (city), Cork, Ireland. Upon its dissolution, the institute had 17,000 students studying in art, business, engineering, music, drama and science disciplines. The 2010 McGrath Cup is a Gaelic football competition played by the teams of Munster GAA. The competition differs from the Munster Senior Football Championship as it also features further education colleges and the winning team does not progress to another tournament at All-Ireland level. Originally, the preliminary round was due to be played on the first weekend on January. However, due to inclement weather and unplayable pitches, the matches were postponed several times, finally being played on 16 January 2010. The 2014 McGrath Cup was a Gaelic football competition played by the teams of Munster GAA. The competition differs from the Munster Senior Football Championship as it also features further education colleges and the winning team does not progress to another tournament at All-Ireland level. Kerry were the defending champions after defeating Tipperary in the 2013 final. Tipperary, Limerick, Waterford and Clare refused to take part in the 2014 competition in protest at the Munster Council’s decision to seed the 2014 Munster Football Championship and keep Cork and Kerry on separate sides of the draw. The competition was won by Cork who defeated Kerry in the final by four points on 19 January in Mallow. UCC GAA
UCC is a football and hurling club associated with University College Cork. UCC teams play in the Cork Senior Football Championship and Cork Senior Hurling Championship as well as the two main third-level competitions namely the Sigerson Cup in football, the Fitzgibbon Cup in hurling and the Ashbourne Cup in camogie. They also competed against inter-county sides in the pre-season McGrath Cup (football) and Waterford Crystal Cup (hurling). The Waterford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Waterford GAA is one of the 32 County board (Gaelic games), county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for all levels of Gaelic games in County Waterford.
