McCowan Yard
McCowan Yard is an inactive rail yard on the Toronto Transit Commission's (TTC's) Line 3 Scarborough of the Toronto subway system. Line 3 permanently closed following a derailment on July 24, 2023. Facilities McCowan Yard is situated on a site located east of McCowan Station, the eastern terminal of the former Line 3. The yard's street entrance is at 1720 Ellesmere Road, Scarborough, Toronto. The yard provided facilities for the storage, cleaning, and maintenance of the 28 Intermediate Capacity Transit System (ICTS) vehicles used on Line 3 Scarborough. The yard employed a staff of 40. The yard had a carhouse made of prefabricated metal designed by the TTC's Engineering and Construction Department. The carhouse contained one wash track and two repair/maintenance tracks. S Series (Toronto Subway)
The S series was the rolling stock of light metro used on Line 3 Scarborough, part of the subway system of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They were built from 1983 to 1986 for the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) by the Urban Transportation Development Corporation (UTDC) in Millhaven, Ontario. The trains use UTDC's proprietary linear motor-based Intermediate Capacity Transit System (ICTS, now branded as Bombardier Innovia Metro) and are its Mark I model, which is also used by the Vancouver SkyTrain and the Detroit People Mover. They consist of 14 married pair sets (28 cars total) with fleet numbers 3000 to 3027, and are not compatible with the trains on other Toronto lines, which use conventional motors. McCowan (TTC)
McCowan was a terminal station on Line 3 Scarborough of the Toronto subway. The closed station is located at 1275 McCowan Road, just north of Ellesmere Road at Bushby Drive/Town Centre Court. In February 2021, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) recommended the closure of Line 3 in November 2023 and its replacement by bus service until the completion of the Scarborough extension of Line 2 Bloor–Danforth. Innovia Metro is an automated guideway transit, automated rapid transit system manufactured by Alstom. Innovia Metro systems run on conventional metal rails and pull power from a third rail but are powered by a linear induction motor that provides traction by using magnetic force to pull on a "fourth rail" (a flat aluminum slab) placed between the running rails. The Greenwood Yard (also known as the Greenwood Complex) is a rail yard with support buildings that service subway vehicles on Line 2 Bloor–Danforth of the Toronto subway. Greenwood is one of two subway yards on Line 2, the other being the much smaller Keele Subway Yard.
