Mbour
M'Bour or Mbour (; Wolof: ''Mbuur''), is a city in the Thiès Region of Senegal. It lies on the Petite Côte, approximately south of Dakar. It is home to a population of 284,189 (2023 census). The city's major industries are tourism, fishing and peanut processing. M'Bour is a tourist destination. It is situated on the "Little Coast" and connected to Dakar via the N1 road. It is noteworthy for the orphanage and nursery for children run by the international NGO Vivre Ensemble, and for the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Senegal. 140 migrants drowned on October 29, 2020 when a boat from M'Bour that was bound for the Canary Islands capsized near Saint-Louis, Senegal. Viviane Ndour
Viviane (born Viviane Chidid) is a Senegalese pop singer who is the former backing vocalist and former sister-in-law of Youssou N'Dour. Viviane is known as the queen or reine of Senegalese music. Her music combines traditional Senegalese mbalax music with elements of U.S. rap, R&B and Country music. She released her first album in 1999 and formed a group called Le Jolof Band in 2001. Most of her songs are in either Wolof or English though a few are in French, the official language of Senegal. Youssou Diagne
Youssou Diagne (29 August 1938 – 18 November 2022) was a Senegalese politician who was the seventh President of the National Assembly, from 2001 to 2002. Biography Born in Mbour, he studied at the Catholic school in Popenguine and then in Diourbel before becoming a teacher in Gossas. He continued to train in management and finance and secured a position with the Air Afrique airline. In 1992 he joined the Senegalese Democratic Party, which was part of the Sopi Coalition which won the 2001 parliamentary elections, Diagne becoming the seventh president of the National Assembly. But, after losing in the local elections in Ngaparou the following year, he was forced to resign his presidency on 12 June 2002 to be succeeded by Pape Diop. Saint-Louis () or Saint Louis (), is the capital of Senegal's Saint-Louis Region. Located in the northwest of Senegal, near the mouth of the Senegal River, and north of Senegal's capital city Dakar. It had a population of 254,171 in 2023. Saint-Louis was the capital of the French colony of Senegal from 1673 until 1902 and French West Africa from 1895 until 1902, when the capital was moved to Dakar. From 1920 to 1957, it also served as the capital of the neighboring colony of Mauritania.
