Maïa Schwinghammer (born September 14, 2001) is a Canadian mogul skier. Early life Schwinghammer attended Holy Cross High School in Saskatoon. Career On January 31, 2025, Schwinghammer won her first moguls gold medal of the 2024–25 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup. She finished the World Cup in third place with 456 points. Schwinghammer represented Canada at the 2025 FIS Freestyle Ski World Championships and won a bronze medal in the moguls event with 74.92 points. Mogul Skiing
Mogul skiing is a freestyle skiing, freestyle skiing competition consisting of one timed run of free skiing on a steep, heavily moguled course, stressing technical turns, aerial maneuvers and speed. Internationally, the sport is contested at the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships, and at the Freestyle skiing at the Winter Olympics, Winter Olympic Games. Moguls are a series of bumps on a piste formed when skiers push snow into mounds as they do sharp turns. This tends to happen naturally as skiers use the slope but they can also be constructed artificially. Once formed, a naturally occurring mogul tends to grow as skiers follow similar paths around it, further deepening the surrounding grooves known as troughs. Since skiing tends to be a series of linked turns, moguls form together to create a bump field. The FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships is the world championship organized by the FIS for freestyle skiing. It was first organized in 1986 and is now held every odd year. FIS Freestyle Ski And Snowboarding World Championships 2025
The 2025 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships were held in the Engadin region of Switzerland from 18 to 30 March 2025. A total of 30 medal events were on the program, with 16 being contested in the freestyle and freeski disciplines and 14 in snowboarding. St. Moritz will host the big air, moguls, aerials, ski & snowboard cross and the alpine snowboard events, whereas Silvaplana will host the slopestyle and halfpipe events. Host selection Engadin was awarded host of the 2025 Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships by being the lone applicant at the end of the application period in April 2021.
