Mazatlán () is a city in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The city serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding , known as the Mazatlán Municipality. It is located on the Pacific coast across from the southernmost tip of the Baja California peninsula. is a Nahuatl word for 'place of deer'. The city was colonized in 1531 by the Conquistadors where many indigenous people lived. By the mid-19th century, a large group of immigrants arrived from Germany. Over time, Mazatlán developed into a commercial seaport, importing equipment for the nearby gold and silver mines. It served as the capital of Sinaloa from 1859 to 1873. The German settlers also influenced the local music, banda, with some genres being an alteration of Bavarian folk music. The settlers established the Pacifico Brewery on 14 March 1900. The Xixime were an indigenous people who inhabited a portion of the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains in the present day states of Durango and Sinaloa, Mexico. The Xixime are noted for their reported practice of human cannibalism, cannibalism and resistance to Spanish colonization of the Americas, Spanish colonization in the form of the Xixime Rebellion of 1610. Language The Xixime spoke Xixime language, Xixime, a poorly documented, now-extinct Uto-Aztecan languages, Uto-Aztecan language. Estado De Occidente
Estado de Occidente (; also known as Sonora y Sinaloa) was a Mexican state established in 1824. The constitution was drafted in that year and the government was initially established with its capital at El Fuerte, Sinaloa. The first governor was Juan Miguel Riesgo. The state consisted of modern Sonora and Sinaloa, and also modern Arizona more or less south of the Gila River (although in much of this area the Yaqui, Pima, Apaches, and other native inhabitants at certain times did not recognize the rule of the state). The constitution was established in 1825 with one of its principles being the making of all inhabitants of the state citizens. This was resented by the Yaqui since they now had to pay taxes, which they had been exempt from before. Teatro Ángela Peralta, Mazatlán
The Teatro Ángela Peralta (Ángela Peralta Theater) is a theater building in the city of Mazatlán, Sinaloa. It was erected in the Porfirian era of the port and is considered one of the most beautiful and important buildings of its type in Mexico. It was declared a National Historical Heritage in 1990. History The original design of the building was carried out by the engineer Andrés Librado Tapia and its construction took place between 1869 and 1874. It was inaugurated on February 15, 1874, with the name Teatro Rubio, property of businessman Manuel Rubio. At that time this theater was a modest popular hall. Between 1879 and 1881, several major renovations and repairs were carried out. Once it was completely finished, it was officially inaugurated on February 6, 1881. Pacífico (beer)
Cerveza Pacífico Clara, better known as Pacífico, is a Mexican pilsner (beer), pilsner-style beer brewed in the Pacific Ocean port city of Mazatlán, in the state of Sinaloa, México. History It was first brewed in 1900 when three German Mexicans, Germans, Jorge Claussen, Germán Evers and Emilio Radostits opened a brewery, the ''Cerveceria del Pacífico'', in Mazatlán. Its label includes a picture depicting a lifebuoy, lifesaver encircling a ship's anchor superimposed over the port's lighthouse hill, known locally as "Cerro del Crestón." In Mazatlán, the beer is available in three different size bottles: "cuartitos" (), "medias" (), and "ballenas" (). Alcohol content: 4.4 percent. "Clara" means clear, blonde, as opposed to "oscura" (dark).
