Mayme Ousley
Mayme Hanrahan Ousley (January 2, 1887 – October 29, 1970) was the mayor of St. James, Missouri on several occasions. At her election in 1921, she was the first elected woman mayor in Missouri. Life and career Mayme Hanrahan was born in the town of Edgar Springs, in Phelps County, and grew up in the county seat, Rolla. In 1905 she married fellow Phelps County native Edward William Ousley, a 1906 graduate of the dental school of Washington University in St. Louis. That year the couple moved to St. James, where Edward opened a dental practice and where they would remain for the rest of their adult lives. They soon became active in many local civic organizations, and Dr. Ousley joined the town's semi-professional baseball team. His wife accompanied them on the road as they played. She often scolded them about their appearance; the resulting nickname, “Granny” Ousley, stuck with her. Liberty, Missouri
Liberty is a city in and the county seat of Clay County, Missouri, United States and is a suburb of Kansas City, located in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. As of the 2020 United States Census the population was 30,167. Liberty is home to William Jewell College. History Liberty was settled in 1822, and shortly later became the county seat of Clay County. The city was named for the American concept of liberty. In 1830, David Rice Atchison established a law office in Liberty. He was joined three years later by colleague Alexander William Doniphan. The two argued cases defending the rights of Mormon settlers in Jackson County, served Northwest Missouri in Missouri's General Assembly, and labored for the addition of the Platte Purchase to Missouri's boundaries. The State Historical Society of Missouri, a private membership and state funded organization, is a comprehensive research facility located in Columbia, Missouri, specializing in the preservation and study of Missouri's cultural heritage. Established in 1898 by the Missouri Press Association and made a trustee of the state in 1901, the Society is the official historical society of the state of Missouri and is located on the campus of the University of Missouri in Downtown Columbia, Missouri. The Order of the Eastern Star is a Freemasonry, Masonic List of fraternal auxiliaries and side degrees, appendant Masonic bodies, body open to both men and women. It was established in by lawyer and educator Rob Morris (Freemason), Rob Morris, a noted Freemason, and adopted and approved as an appendant body of the Masonic Fraternity in 1873. The order is based on some teachings from the Bible, and is open to people of all religious beliefs.
