Maximilian Joseph Von Tarnóczy
Maximilian Joseph von Tarnóczy (Hungarian: Tarnózy Miksa) (24 October 1806 – 4 April 1876) was an Austrian Cardinal and Archbishop. He was born in Schwaz on 24 October 1806, the son of Franz Xaver von Tarnóczy (Tarnóczy Ferenc), a Hungarian-Bavarian nobleman (1756–1837) and his second wife, Catherine von Sprinzenberg (1776–1837). He studied in Innsbruck and Salzburg and in 1829 became a priest. In 1832 he received a doctorate in theology and worked as a teacher at the Salzburg Lyceum. In 1850 he was appointed Archbishop of Salzburg, a position he held until his death in 1876. As Archbishop of Salzburg, Tarnóczy wielded huge power in Rome, so much so that when he arrived at the First Vatican Council, Pope Pius IX welcomed him with the words, ''"Ecco il mezzo papa, che puo far dei vescovi"'' (''"See the demi-Pope, who can make Bishops"''). The Archdiocese of Salzburg (; ) is a Latin rite archdiocese of the Catholic Church centered in Salzburg, Austria. It is also the principal diocese of the ecclesiastical province of Salzburg. Giuseppe Milesi Pironi Ferretti (9 March 1817 – 2 August 1873) was an Italian Catholic cardinal and politician of the Holy See. Early life and career Ferretti was born on 9 March 1817 in Ancona and was educated there until he joined the Pontifical Academy of Ecclesiastical Nobles. He was ordained in 1842. He was appointed Catholic Church governor of Ascoli, then Civitavecchia and finally Macerata. He served as ''pro-legate'' in both Urbino and Forlì until his appointment as ''minister of Commerce, Fine Arts and Public Works'' of the Papal States in 1854. Valentin Wiery
Valentin Wiery (12 February 1813 – 29 December 1880) was an Austrian Catholic bishop. Wiery was born in St Marein in Wolfsberg, and was educated locally (learning the Slovenian language). He then studied at the gymnasia in Görz and in Klagenfurt, where he pursued the philosophy curriculum. He then entered the seminary at Klagenfurt where he completed his training in theology. He was ordained on 24 August 1835. Recognizing his talent, the bishop of Lavant, Ignaz Franz Zimmermann (1824–1843), sent him to the graduate seminary for priests in Vienna, where he obtained a doctorate in theology. At Lavant, he was diocesan superintendent of schools. He was named a canon of the cathedral of Lavant on 20 October 1844, and canon of the cathedral of Salzburg on 20 November 1851. The Bishop of Gurk is the head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gurk, which was established by Archbishop Gebhard of Salzburg, in 1072, as the first suffragan bishop in the Duchy of Carinthia. Initially performing only the functions of an archiepiscopal vicar, or auxiliary bishop, the bishops of Gurk did not receive a small episcopal territory until 17 July 1131, when Archbishop Conrad of Salzburg defined the boundaries of the diocese. The bishops of Gurk were elevated to the rank of prince-bishops by Emperor Frederick III on 15 December 1460, however, this title remained honorific and did not involve any immediate statehood.
