Gloss (material Appearance)
Gloss is an optical property which indicates how well a surface reflects light in a specular (mirror-like) direction. It is one of the important parameters that are used to describe the visual appearance of an object. Other categories of visual appearance related to the perception of regular or diffuse reflection and transmission of light have been organized under the concept of '' cesia'' in an order system with three variables, including gloss among the involved aspects. The factors that affect gloss are the refractive index of the material, the angle of incident light and the surface texture. Apparent gloss depends on the amount of ''specular'' reflection – light reflected from the surface in an equal amount and the symmetrical angle to the one of incoming light – in comparison with ''diffuse'' reflection – the amount of light scattered into other directions. Matt, Switzerland
Matt is a village, and former Municipalities of Switzerland, municipality, in the Glarus Süd, municipality of Glarus Süd and canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Matt lies in the valley of the Sernf river, and consists of the village of Matt itself, and the mountain hamlet (place), hamlet of Weissenberge. History Matt is first mentioned in 1273 as ''Mattun''. In 1879, the valley of the Linth river was connected to the Swiss railway network by the opening of the Swiss Northeastern Railway line from Weesen, but Matt, in the side-valley of the Sernf river, remained unserved. This impacted the local economy, and various proposals were brought forward to provide rail service to the Sernf valley. Eventually, on 8 July 1905, the Sernftal tramway, a metre gauge roadside electric tramway, was opened connecting Schwanden, Glarus, Schwanden with Matt and other communities as far as Elm, Glarus, Elm. Matthew Pritchett MBE (born 14 July 1964) is a British cartoonist who has worked on ''The Daily Telegraph'' newspaper under the pen name Matt since 1988. Early life and education Pritchett's father Oliver Pritchett, who was a columnist for ''The Telegraph'' for all decades, is the son of the writer V. S. Pritchett. Matt's sister is screenwriter Georgia Pritchett. Pritchett attended a grammar school in south&east London before studying graphics at Saint Martin's School of Art. He started working as a waiter in a pizza restaurant, and started drawing cartoons in his spare time. His first cartoon was published in the ''New Statesman'', and he soon started drawing more cartoons for ''The Telegraph'' diary. He had considered becoming a film-cameraman, but gave up after realising he had misunderstood the role.
