King Matjaž
King Matjaž/Mátyás/Matijaš (, , ) is a mythological king, legendary king in Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and in some other countries, based on pre-Christian traditions of Carantania and in course of centuries gradually linked to a real-life king, Matthias Corvinus of Hungary, who lived in the second half of the 15th century. He has also been linked to the leader of the peasant's army that fought against the Turks in the Battle of Kokovo in July 1478. A number of folk literature, folk poems and stories about King Matjaž are known, the earliest ones originating in the western Slovene area of Tolmin from the 16th century. He is mainly represented as the king who is just and a defender of his people, and the bringer of the golden age of prosperity. Matjaž Pograjc
Matjaž Pograjc (born 1967 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian theatre director and one of Slovenia's most prominent theatre artists. Life and work Studies in theatre and radio direction (AGRFT, Ljubljana). In 1990, he founded the Betontanc group, with which he develops and researches choreographical and physical forms of stage expression, employing ideologically oriented themes – especially from the world of urban adolescence. Another important part of his research is dedicated to verbal theatrical structure; with the aid of the Mladinsko Theatre ensemble, Pograjc explores a directional concept based on original interpretations of contemporary dramatic texts or the contributions of the acting team. Matjaž Zupan
Matjaž Zupan (born 27 September 1968 in Kranj) is a Slovenian former ski jumper who competed for the former Yugoslavia and afterwards for independent Slovenia from 1987 to 1994. He won a silver medal in the team large hill competition at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. His best finish at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships was 4th in the individual large hill event in 1987. After his jumping days were over he a started successful coaching career. He was the coach of the Slovenian national ski jumping team from 1999 to 2006. His biggest successes were when Rok Benkovič won normal hill in World Championship in Oberstdorf and also bronze medal in same competition with Slovenian team. Matjaž Smodiš (born 13 December 1979) is a Slovenian former professional basketball player. Standing at a height of 2.05 m (6'8 ") tall, he played at the power forward and center positions. During his pro club playing career, he played in seven EuroLeague Finals (2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), and he was a three-time EuroLeague champion (2001, 2006, 2008). Matjaž Šinkovec (; born on 22 May 1951) is a Slovenian diplomat, politician, translator, journalist and science fiction writer. He was one of the co-founders of the Slovenian Democratic Party. Early life and career Šinkovec was born in a middle class family in Ljubljana, then part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He attended the Poljane Grammar School in Ljubljana, where he was also classmate of the later historian and politician Vasko Simoniti. He enrolled at the University of Ljubljana, where he graduated from comparative linguistics. In 1976 he obtained his Master of Arts, MA in English language and English literature, literature. Matjaž Schmidt (7 February 1948 – 29 September 2010) was a Slovenes, Slovene artist and illustrator, best known for his Children's literature, children's books illustrations and comic strips. Schmidt was born in Ljubljana. After high school, he attended the Faculty of Architecture. In 1968, he transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Ljubljana, Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, where he specialized in illustration. He was married to Jelka Godec Schmidt, who is also an illustrator. In 2009, he won the Levstik Award for lifetime achievement in illustration. He died in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Matjaž Rozman (born 3 January 1987) is a Slovenian footballer who plays for Celje in the Slovenian PrvaLiga. Club career Rozman left Aluminij after his first senior season in July 2006 and signed with Interblock, earning 76 league caps.
