Mathers Mill, Ohio
Mathers Mill, alternately called Mathers Mills or Mather's Mills, is an unincorporated community in Warren County, Ohio, United States. It is approximately five miles east of Lebanon, and two miles south of Oregonia in eastern Turtlecreek Township. The area is served by the Oregonia post office, and Lebanon phone exchange and school district. Wilmington Road crosses the Little Miami River and intersects Corwin Road in this area. The bridge is known as the Mathers Mill bridge and the steep hill up out of the valley is sometimes referred to as Mathers Mill Hill. The area is named for a mill once owned by Richard Mather, which no longer exists. The settlement was a stop for the Little Miami Railroad. Warren County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 242,337. Its county seat is Lebanon. Lebanon, Ohio
Lebanon is a city in and the county seat of Warren County, Ohio, United States. The population was 20,841 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. History Lebanon is in the Symmes Purchase. The first European settler in what is now Lebanon was Ichabod Corwin, uncle of Ohio Governor Thomas Corwin, who came to Ohio from Bourbon County, Kentucky, and settled on the north branch of Turtle Creek in March 1796. The site of his cabin is now on the grounds of Berry Intermediate School on North Broadway and is marked with a monument erected by the Warren County Historical Society. Oregonia is an unincorporated community in northwestern Washington Township, Warren County, Ohio, United States, on the east shore of the Little Miami River about five miles northeast of Lebanon and six miles south of Waynesville. The ZIP Code for Oregonia is 45054. The first settlement there was around 1802, where there was a mill operated at various times by Nebo Gaunt, Ignatius Brown, and David Brown. Around 1820, it was known as Freeport. The Little Miami Railroad reached the village c. 1845. A post office called Oregon was established in 1846, and the name was changed to Oregonia in 1882. Little Miami Railroad
The Little Miami Railroad was a railway of southwestern Ohio, running from the eastern side of Cincinnati to Springfield, Ohio. By merging with the Columbus and Xenia Railroad in 1853, it created the first through-rail route from the important manufacturing city of Cincinnati to the state capital, Columbus. In this period, railroads were important for creating connections between the important waterways of the Great Lakes and the Ohio River, which were major transportation routes for products to other markets. The Little Miami Scenic Trail is the fourth longest paved trail in the United States, running through five southwestern counties in the state of Ohio.
