Matebele FC
Matebele FC is a Botswanan football club based in Matebeleng, Kgatleng District that currently competes in the Botswana Premier League. Stadium Matebele FC plays its home matches at its own stadium, The Nest, in Matebeleng. History Matebele FC was founded in 2021 after former First Division South club Masters Blackpool FC was purchased and dissolved. Matebele FC was formed and took the club's place in the league. There was some backlash from fans as Lame Makache converted the club from a society to a business entity during the acquisition and rebranding process in order to meet licensing requirements. During its first season under the Matebele FC name, the club finished fourth in the league and reached the semi-finals of the Botswana FA Challenge Cup before falling 1–2 to Gaborone United. Botswana Premier League
The Botswana Premier League is the highest level Association football, football league in Botswana. Organised by the Botswana Football Association, the league was formed in 1978 to replace the pre-independence Bechuanaland Union African Soccer League, which was regional. Participants in the first edition of the league included Tlokweng Pirates, Notwane, Black Peril FC, Black Peril, Queens Park Rangers (Botswana), Queens Park Rangers and a team from Ngwaketse district. The league has always been dominated by the teams that are based south of Dibete or in the southern part of the country. 2024–25 Botswana Premier League
The 2024–25 FNB Botswana Premier League season is the 47th season of the Botswana Premier League, the top-tier football league in Botswana, since its establishment in 1966. The season was planned to start on September 21, 2024, but was postponed to September 28, and then October 4. Jwaneng Galaxy FC are the current title holders from the 2023-24 season. The season starts with 16 teams even though last season it was introduced that four teams would relegate instead of two. Due to concerns of the participating teams, the BFA decided to remain with 16 teams in the BPL. This season was the first of FNB's three year sponsorship of the league. Kgatleng is one of the districts of Botswana, coterminous with the homeland of the Bakgatla people. The 2023–24 Botswana Premier League season was the 46th season of the Botswana Premier League, the top-tier football league in Botswana, since its establishment in 1966.
