Matchroom Boxing
Matchroom Sport is a UK-based sporting event promotions company founded by Barry Hearn and run by him and his son Eddie Hearn. It first came to attention in the sports of snooker and boxing and is also involved in pool, bowling, golf, fishing, darts, table tennis, poker and gymnastics. The company is based in Brentwood, Essex. Matchroom has had broadcasting agreements in the United Kingdom with DAZN, Sky Sports, ITV, and the BBC. Franklin Roy Bruno (born 16 November 1961) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1982 to 1996. He held the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title from 1995 to 1996. Chas & Dave (often billed as Chas 'n' Dave) were an English pop rock duo, formed in London by Chas Hodges and Dave Peacock (musician), Dave Peacock. Snooker Loopy
"Snooker Loopy" is a novelty song written by Chas & Dave. As performed by them, alongside professional snooker players Steve Davis, Dennis Taylor, Willie Thorne, Terry Griffiths and Tony Meo as guest vocalists billed as 'The Matchroom Mob', it was released as a single in May 1986 and reached No. 6 on the UK Singles Chart. (Matchroom Sport, owned by promoter Barry Hearn, was the company that at the time employed all these snooker players.) The lyric is a mild roast of the styles and antics of the players involved: "old Willie Thorne, his hair's all gawn", for example. Matchroom League
The Premier League Snooker was a professional non-ranking snooker tournament. It was held from 1987 until 2012. The tournament was played in a round-robin format over a number of weeks, normally from mid-September to early December, around the other World Snooker events in various locations. History The event started in 1987 as the Matchroom League. The inaugural event was won by Steve Davis, who retained the title in the following three years. The matches were of eight frames and all frames were played out. Three points were awarded for a win and one point for a draw. Matchroom Professional Championship
The Matchroom Professional Championship was a non-ranking snooker tournament staged between 1986 and 1988. All three editions were held at Cliffs Pavilion in Southend-on-Sea. In its final year the tournament was sponsored by LEP. The tournament was organised by Barry Hearn who managed up to eight of the top professional players at the time. The prize money on offer for the winner each year was £50,000, with the first edition being won by Willie Thorne who defeated Steve Davis 10–9 in the final. James Warren White (born 2 May 1962) is an English professional snooker player who has won ten ranking events.
