Mat Brinkman
Mat Brinkman (born 1973 in Austin, Texas, Austin, Texas) is an American artist and electronic musician. Also known as Matt Brinkman, Meerk Puffy, Mystery Brinkman, Brinkman, Brinkmangler, and Mucid Cuspidor. He is based in Colorado. History Brinkman was a co-creator of the Fort Thunder, ''Fort Thunde''r artist live-work space in Providence, Rhode Island, Providence, Rhode Island from 1995 to 2001. He resided in the Providence artist live workspace ''Hilarious Attic'' from 2002 to 2007. He recorded with the bands Mindflayer (band), Mindflayer and Forcefield (art collective), Forcefield, who performed at the 2002 Whitney Biennial. In 2000, his Teratoid Heights comic was published by Highwater Books. Through his anonymous and pseudonymous works, he, like Bruce Conner and Marcel Duchamp before him, seems to be concerned with issues of artistic credit and its relation to artistic output. Noise
Noise is sound, chiefly unwanted, unintentional, or harmful sound considered unpleasant, loud, or disruptive to mental or hearing faculties. From a physics standpoint, there is no distinction between noise and desired sound, as both are vibrations through a medium, such as air or water. Bruce Conner (November 18, 1933 – July 7, 2008) was an American artist who worked with assemblage, film, drawing, sculpture, painting, collage, and photography. Biography Bruce Conner was born November 18, 1933, in McPherson, Kansas. His well-to-do middle-class family moved to Wichita, when Conner was four. He attended high school in Wichita, Kansas. Conner studied at Wichita University (now Wichita State University) and later at University of Nebraska, where he graduated in 1956 with a bachelor of fine arts degree. During this time as a student he visited New York City. Conner worked in a variety of media from an early age. Mindflayer (band)
Mindflayer is a noise rock band from Providence, Rhode Island, made up of Brian Chippendale (of Lightning Bolt) and Mat Brinkmann (of Forcefield) which was formed out of Fort Thunder. Much of Mindflayer's identity, including the band name, are obscure Dungeons & Dragons references. The name of the band refers to psionic creatures in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, Illithids, commonly referred to as "mind flayers." The covers of '' Take Your Skin Off'' and '' Die & Mold Services'' also resemble the Illithid's squid-like faces. The title to the band's fourth album, '' Expedition to the Hairier Peaks'', plays on the popular Dungeons & Dragons module title, '' Expedition to the Barrier Peaks''.
