Mascot, New South Wales
Mascot is an inner south suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Mascot is located 7 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district and is one of the administrative centres of the Bayside Council. A small part of Mascot is located in the Inner West Council. Mascot is on the northwest side of Botany Bay and contains Sydney Airport. History The first land grants in the area were made in 1835, with market gardening being the main land use. Subdivision followed the construction of Botany Road in 1875 and a municipality known as North Botany was Municipality of Mascot, formed in 1888. A racecourse operated in this area in 1904 on land that was formerly owned by the Australian Golf Club. The race course was known as Ascot Racecourse, Sydney, Ascot, named after its Ascot Racecourse, famous counterpart in England. Sewage Pumping Station 38 is a heritage-listed sewerage pumping station located on General Holmes Drive, in the Sydney suburb of Mascot, in the Bayside Council local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was designed and built by the Metropolitan Water Sewerage and Drainage Board. It is also known as SPS 38, Mascot Sewage Pumping Station and SP0038. Botany Water Reserves
The Botany Water Reserves is a heritage-listed area that was historically used as part of Sydney's water supply system. It is located at 1024 Botany Road, Mascot, New South Wales, Australia. Cooks River
The Cooks River, a semi-mature tide-dominated drowned valley estuary, is a tributary of Botany Bay, located in south-western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The course of the urban waterway has been altered to accommodate various developments along its shore. It serves as part of a stormwater system for the of its watershed, and many of the original streams running into it have been turned into concrete lined channels. Ascot Racecourse is a dual-purpose British racecourse, located in Ascot, Berkshire, England, about 25 miles west of London. Ascot Racecourse was a former racecourse in the southern Sydney suburb of Mascot, close to the Mascot Aerodrome. It was named after Royal Ascot Racecourse in the United Kingdom. The Municipality of Mascot was a local government area in the inner south of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The municipality was proclaimed as the Borough of North Botany on 29 March 1888 and was renamed to the Municipality of Mascot, in order to differentiate itself from their southern neighbour, from 31 October 1911.
