María Magdalena (film)
''María Magdalena'' is a 1954 Argentine melodrama film of the classical era of Argentine cinema, directed by Carlos Hugo Christensen and starring Laura Hidalgo in the title role. It was Christensen's last film before he continued filming in Brazil. Plot María, a passionate and selfish woman, willingly maintains an affair with Rómulo, a married man who ends up abandoning his fragile and insecure wife to unleash all his passions with her. Being wealthy and gorgeous Maria also displays cynicism, pride and unscrupulousness which causes torture and suffering of those around her. Then came David, a dedicated scientist who attends to the unprotected and sacrificed workers of Maria's plantation, which showed the latter the ghosts of her licentious life. Carlos Hugo Christensen
Carlos Hugo Christensen (15 December 1914 in Santiago del Estero – 30 November 1999 in Rio de Janeiro) was an Argentina, Argentine film director, screenwriter and film producer, an iconic figure of the Golden Age of Argentine cinema, classical era of Argentine cinema. He was of Danes, Danish descent through his paternal side. Christensen directed fifty-four feature films some of which are considered masterpieces of what is known as the Argentine golden era of cinema. Laura Hidalgo (1 May 1927 – 18 November 2005) was an Argentine actress of the classical era of Argentine cinema. Biography Born in Chișinău, Bessarabia as Pesea Faerman Postolow, her family moved in 1931 to Buenos Aires, where she grew up. Hidalgo appeared in sixteen films in Mexico, Spain and Argentina. She often drew comparisons with the Austrian actress Hedy Lamarr, whom she resembled. George Andreani
George Andreani, pseudonym Josef Dvořáček (born as Josef Kumok; 28 February 1901 in Warsaw, Poland – 2 April 1979 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) was a Polish composer, film score composer, pianist, conductor, and actor. He was noted for his scores of some 75 Argentine films during the Golden Age of Argentine cinema from 1937 to 1959. Aside from his prolific work as a score composer, he was also conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Schenley in the 1940s. Career He participated as an actor in the film Lelíček al Servicio de Sherlock Holmes, whose role was that of a composer (in addition to scoring the music for that film).
