Marçal Aquino
Marçal Aquino (born 1958) is a Brazilian novelist, screenwriter and journalist. Biography He spent his childhood in Amparo, a city the countryside of São Paulo, graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (PUC / Campinas) in 1983. In 1984, he published his first book of poems, ''A depilação da noiva no dia do casamento''. After moving to the city of São Paulo, he began working as a journalist for media like '' Gazeta Esportiva'' and ''O Estado de S. Paulo''. Since 1988, working as a police reporter at the '' Jornal da Tarde'', a fact that would influence his later work. He released his first book of short stories, ''As fomes de setembro'' (''The Famines of September'') in 1991 to get the fifth Biennial Nestlé Prize in Literature. In 1994, Aquino wrote the script for ''Os Matadores'' (''The Killers''), a film directed by Beto Brant. ''Drained'', ( Portuguese: ''O Cheiro do Ralo'') is a 2006 Brazilian dark comedy film based on a novel by Lourenço Mutarelli. It was directed by Heitor Dhalia, and stars Selton Mello. The film was produced by Geração Conteúdo, Primo Filmes & RT Features. Plot Lourenço is a lonely pawn shop owner whose work made him insensitive to the suffering of those who desperately seek to sell him their personal possessions. Lourenço's insensitivity causes him to deal with the world as a collection of objects to be bought. He begins to play power games with his customers and derives pleasure from it. Lourenço narrates the movie, and throughout the plot, he reveals his growing lust for power. The literal name of the movie ("The Smell from the Drain") refers to the persistent bad odor that comes from the restroom in Lourenço's office. Amparo, São Paulo
Amparo is a Brazilian municipality in the state of São Paulo. The population is of 72,677 (2020 est.) in an area of 445 km². The city is part of the "Water-Circuit", a cluster of towns in São Paulo state which are famous for natural fountains and water wells. One of the main events in the city is the Winter Festival, when some stages are set over the main plaza and presentations are scheduled for the whole month of July. A variety of music bands and artists are invited to the city, from sertanejo (a Brazilian form of country music) and heavy metal to Ballet. Although the event is more dedicated to the city local residents, it attracts tourists from other regions. Amparo is located about 50 kilometers from Campinas and 120 kilometers from São Paulo.
