Marx Dormoy (Paris Métro)
Marx Dormoy () is a station on line 12 of the Paris Métro in the districts of La Chapelle and Goutte d'Or and the 18th arrondissement. The station opened on 23 August 1916 as part of the extension of the Nord-Sud company's line A from Jules Joffrin to Porte de la Chapelle. On 27 March 1931 line A became line 12 of the ''Métro''. The station is named after Marx Dormoy (1888–1941), a French socialist politician assassinated by Cagoulards. Until 1946 it was called ''Torcy'' after the ''Place de Torcy'', named after Colbert de Torcy (1665–1746), who was a nephew of Colbert and a diplomat and Foreign Minister under Louis XIV. The Paris Métro (, , or , ), short for Métropolitain (), is a rapid transit system serving the Paris metropolitan area in France. Jean Baptiste Colbert, Marquis of Torcy (14 September 1665 – 2 September 1746), generally called Colbert de Torcy, was a French diplomat, who negotiated some of the most important treaties towards the end of Louis XIV's reign, notably the treaty (1700) that occasioned the War of the Spanish Succession (1701–1714), in which the dying Charles II of Spain named Louis XIV's grandson, Philippe of France, Duke of Anjou, heir to the Spanish throne, eventually founding the line of Bourbons of Spain. Mairie d'Aubervilliers () is a station on Line 12 of the Paris Métro, and is the northern terminus of the line. The station is located near Aubervilliers town hall and opened on 31 May 2022. In the future, it will be served by Line 15 of the Grand Paris Express. History Line 12 Line 12 was extended north to Front Populaire in December 2012. As part of the construction of that extension, tunnelling had continued north beyond Front Populaire, allowing the Pont de Stains (later Aimé Césaire) and Mairie d'Aubervilliers stations to be constructed at a later date. Construction on the station began in autumn 2014, with opening of the station planned for the end of 2017. However, technical difficulties due to sandy soil and a high water table led to substantial delays – with the opening of the station postponed to 2019 and then 2022.. Side Platform
A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks). Jean-Baptiste Colbert (; 29 August 1619 – 6 September 1683) was a French statesman who served as First Minister of State from 1661 until his death in 1683 under the rule of King Louis XIV.
