Martín Osimani
Martín Osimani (born May 22, 1981) is a Uruguayan professional basketball player. Born in Montevideo, he is a longtime member of the Uruguay national basketball team and is currently playing professionally with Club Biguá de Villa Biarritz in the Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol. College career Osimani moved from Montevideo to Hialeah, Florida to attend high school there. An All-state player after nearly averaging a triple double per game for Champagnat Catholic High School, he was ranked in the top 100 high school recruits by ESPN.com. He settled on the University of Utah after considering several powerhouse programs, including Duke University and UCLA. In his freshman season, Osimani played in 28 of the team's 30 games off the bench, but averaged only 1.2 points and 1.0 assists per game in 8.0 minutes per game of playing time. Point Guard
The point guard (PG), also called the one or the point, is one of the Basketball positions, five positions in a regulation basketball game. A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position and is usually the shortest player on the court. Point guards are expected to control the pace of the game. They effectively "run" the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time. Generally, point guards are expected to be proficient in passing the ball and being able to get Assist (basketball), assists to teammates. South American Basketball Championship 2010
The 2010 South American Basketball Championship was the 44th edition of the South American Basketball Championship. Eight teams featured the competition, held in Neiva, Colombia from 26 to July 31 in the Coliseo Álvaro Sánchez Silva. Argentina was the defending champion, but lost in the final to Brazil. The first three places qualified for the basketball tournament at the 2011 Pan American Games and to the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship, the latter of which doubled as the FIBA Americas qualifier for the 2012 Olympics. Because Argentina, which automatically qualified for the FIBA Americas Championship as host, finished in an automatic qualifying spot, the fourth-place team was also invited to that competition. Basketball at the 2007 Pan American Games took place at the indoor arena in the Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet, Autódromo de Jacarépagua in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, an arena which was built specially for the Pan Am Games. Brazil national basketball team, Brazil was the reigning Pan American champion in the men's competition, while Cuba national basketball team, Cuba defended its title in the women's competition. Each competition had eight teams divided in two groups. In each group, each team played against all others once and the two best advanced to the semifinals. The two latter in each group played in 5th to 8th classification matches. The women's competition started on July 20 with the final held on July 24.
