Martín Chirino
Martín Chirino López (1 March 1925 – 11 March 2019) was a Spanish sculptor. Cofounder of the group El Paso (The Step) in 1957, Chirino worked mainly with iron and his work is categorized as abstract art. Biography First years Chirino was born on 1 March 1925 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in the Las Canteras area. In 1948 Chirino traveled to Madrid, where he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. In 1952 he finished his Fine Arts studies obtaining the degree of professor. The next year he traveled to London where he attended classes at the Royal Academy of Arts where he finished his education as a sculptor. After that he returned to Las Palmas where he developed a strong cooperation with his friend Manolo Millares. Relocation to Madrid. Juana Francés
Juana Francés (1924 – 1990) was a Spanish Abstract Expressionist painter. She was born on 31 July 1924 in Altea, Spain. She attended the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. In 1957 she co-founded the (El Paso/The Step) a Spanish Abstract Expressionism group. She died on 9 March 1990 in Madrid. Her work was included in the 1954, 1960 and 1964 Venice Biennale. It was also included in the 1960 exhibition ''Before Picasso; After Miró'' at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum as well as the 1962 Tate exhibition ''Modern Spanish Painting''. In 2023 her work was included in the exhibition '' Action, Gesture, Paint: Women Artists and Global Abstraction 1940-1970'' at the Whitechapel Gallery in London. Centro Atlántico De Arte Moderno (CAAM)
The Atlantic Center for Modern Art (Spanish:''Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM)'' ) is a contemporary art museum in the Canary Islands, Spain. It is in Vegueta in Las Palmas, the capital city of Gran Canaria. The building was designed by the architect Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oiza, retaining the façade of two older neoclassical houses.
