Martina Topley-Bird
Martina Gillian Topley-Bird (''née'' Topley; born 7 May 1975) is an English singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who first gained fame as the featured female vocalist on trip hop pioneer Tricky (musician), Tricky's debut album, ''Maxinquaye'' (1995). She also worked with him on his subsequent albums, ''Nearly God'' and ''Pre-Millennium Tension'' (both in 1996). In 2003, Topley-Bird released her debut solo album, ''Quixotic (album), Quixotic'', which was critically praised and earned her a Mercury Prize nomination. This was followed by ''Anything'' (2004), ''The Blue God'' (2008), and ''Some Place Simple'' (2010). She has also collaborated with Gorillaz, appearing on their album ''Demon Days'' (2005), as well as with Mark Lanegan, Diplo, and Massive Attack on ''Heligoland (album), Heligoland'' (2010), which she followed by a world tour with the group. Massive Attack
Massive Attack are an English trip hop collective formed in 1988 in Bristol, England, by Robert Del Naja, Robert "3D" Del Naja, Daddy G, Grant "Daddy G" Marshall, Tricky (musician), Adrian "Tricky" Thaws and Andrew Vowles, Andrew "Mushroom" Vowles. The group currently consists of Del Naja and Marshall. They released their debut album in 1991, ''Blue Lines,'' which has been included on numerous best-of lists and is generally considered the first album of the 'trip-hop' genre. The single "Unfinished Sympathy" was a chart hit in Europe, including number one on the Dutch Top 40, and was later voted the 63rd-greatest song of all time in a poll by ''NME''. Primus (band)
Primus ( ) is an American rock music, rock band formed in El Sobrante, Contra Costa County, California, El Sobrante, California in 1984. As of March 2025, the band is composed of bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde, Larry "Ler" LaLonde, and drummer John Hoffman. Primus originally formed in 1984 with Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, later joined by drummer Jay Lane, though the latter two had departed by the beginning of the band's recording career in 1989, replaced by LaLonde and Tim Alexander, Tim "Herb" Alexander respectively. The "classic" lineup of Claypool, LaLonde and Alexander debuted with the live album ''Suck on This'', which was self-released in 1989 on Claypool's label Prawn Song Records, Prawn Song and reissued a year later by Caroline Records. Stephen Robert Nesta Marley (born April 20, 1972) is a Jamaican-American musician. The son of Bob Marley, Marley is an eight-time Grammy Award winner, three times as a solo artist, twice as a producer of his younger paternal half-brother Damian Marley's ''Halfway Tree'' and ''Welcome to Jamrock'' albums, and a further three times as a member of his older brother Ziggy Marley's group Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers. ''Heligoland'' is the fifth studio album by English electronic music duo Massive Attack, released on 8 February 2010 by Virgin Records. Named after a German archipelago, it was their first studio album in seven years, following '' 100th Window'' (2003). It's the first album to feature Daddy G since ''Mezzanine'' (1998), therefore making it the first album by the band to be recorded as a duo. Thomas Wesley Pentz (born November 10, 1978), known professionally as Diplo, is an American DJ and music producer. He is a co-creator and lead member of the electronic dancehall music project Major Lazer; a member of the supergroup LSD (group), LSD, with Labrinth and Sia; a member of electronic duo Jack Ü, with producer and DJ Skrillex; and a member of Silk City (band), Silk City, with Mark Ronson. He founded the record company Mad Decent in 2006, as well as the non-profit organization Heaps Decent the following year. ''The Blue God'' is the second studio album by British singer-songwriter Martina Topley-Bird, her first in five years. Released on 12 May 2008, the album had been complete since at least September 2007. Since then, Topley-Bird slowly revealed track titles and posted songs from the album on her official website and her MySpace page. ''The Blue God'' was produced by Danger Mouse. The album was preceded by its first single, "Carnies," on 3 March 2008. "Poison," the second single, was released on 5 May 2008. The single's B-side, "Soldier Boy", is a collaboration with Gorillaz & Roots Manuva which interpolates certain elements of the Gorillaz' demo "Snakes & Ladders". ''Quixotic'' is the debut album by English singer-songwriter Martina Topley-Bird. The album spans several musical styles including trip hop, electronic and rock. It was co-written and produced by Topley-Bird and received positive reviews from music critics upon its release and was shortlisted for the 2003 Mercury Music Prize. ''Quixotic'' also includes a collaboration with musician Tricky, with whom Topley-Bird collaborated prior to her solo work. ''Quixotic'' was released in the United States one year later, in 2004. ''Pre-Millennium Tension'' is the second album from English rapper and producer Tricky, released in 1996. It was a conscious effort by Tricky to depart away from the trip hop label with which critics had described his previous music. The album was well received by critics, being named the ninth best record of the year in the 1996 Pazz & Jop poll. Background In an October 1996 interview for ''Ray Gun'', Tricky said he wanted to make ''Pre-Millennium Tension'' an "out-an-out punk record" to get away from the trip hop label with which his previous work had been categorized by critics.
