Martin Štěpánek (actor)
Martin Štěpánek (11 January 1947 – 16 September 2010) was a Czech actor, journalist and politician. He joined Mirek Topolánek's First Cabinet as Culture Minister in September 2006, serving in the position until January 2007. He was the son of actor Zdeněk Štěpánek. In 1981 he emigrated to Austria. In 1983 he moved to Munich, where he spent a significant part of his career working for Radio Free Europe. In Munich he joined Czech language Czech ( ; ), historically known as Bohemian ( ; ), is a West Slavic language of the Czech–Slovak group, written in Latin script. Spoken by over 12 million people including second language speakers, it serves as the official language of the ... exile Masonic Lodge ''U tří hvězd'', which moved to Czechoslovakia in 1990, today part of the Grand Lodge of the Czech Republic. Martin Štěpánek (freediver)
Martin Štěpánek (born June 5, 1977 in Náchod, Czech Republic) is a world class freediver and record-holder. Life and career From 1984 to 1997 he was a competitive monofin swimmer ( finswimmer) (distances 50m and 100m). Martin's academic background follows a degree in Forestry Engineering with advanced studies in Sports Biology at the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. After moving to the United States he became USA Certified as a Deep Sea and Saturation Commercial Diver in May 1999. In 2000 Martin met Douglas Peterson, who went on to become his freediving coach and mentor, guiding him to his first World Record in July 2001. Since then, Martin continued to set freediving world records annually up to his retirement from competitive freediving in 2012. He is now recognized as one of the pioneers of modern freediving education. Martin Štěpánek (born 13 December 1979) is a tennis coach and former professional player from the Czech Republic. Biography The son of teachers, Blanka and Ludek Štěpánek, he was born in Havana, Cuba. He also lived in Mexico growing up in the 1980s. Štěpánek, who is not related to Radek Štěpánek, has one brother. Playing career At an ITF Futures event in the Czech Republic in 2001, Štěpánek had a win over Tomáš Berdych in what was the future world number four's first appearance on tour. In 2003 he won the Mordovia Cup, a tournament on the ATP Challenger circuit. He won eight Challenger doubles titles, five of them in 2005, a year he reached a career high 102 in the world. Coaching A shoulder injury ended his career at the end of the 2005 season and he made the move into coaching. Based in Prague, he is best known as the coach of Croatian player Ivan Dodig.
