Martin Brain
Martin Richard Brain (22 December 1932, Birmingham – , Silverstone) was a British racing driver known for his exploits in British hillclimbs and club racing. Brain was a familiar figure within the hillclimbing community both as driver and mechanic. The peak of his career was finishing as overall runner-up to Peter Lawson in the 1968 British Hillclimb Championship in a Cooper T81B F1 chassis which he had fitted with a 7.2l Chrysler V8 engine, taking one win and four second places. The following year he drove this car and a Cooper T86B BRM F1 car to take 4th place in the championship with a further two wins. Brain scored two race wins in club Formula Libre races, firstly at Silverstone in September 1969 and Croft in May 1970. Silverstone
Silverstone is a village and civil parish in the West Northamptonshire unitary authority area of Northamptonshire, England. The village is about south-southwest of Towcester and northeast of Brackley, both accessed via the A43 road, A43 main road which now bypasses Silverstone to the south and east. The village is also about south-southwest of Northampton, west-northwest of Milton Keynes, and east-northeast of Banbury. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 2,176. The village's name probably means 'farm/settlement of Saewulf/Sigewulf'. British Hillclimb Championship
The British Hillclimb Championship (BHC) is the most prestigious hillclimbing championship in Great Britain. The British Hill Climb Championship was held every year from 1947 to 2019, and resumed in 2021. The 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All British Champions have been British. The most successful driver in terms of individual victories is Scott Moran, with 163, followed by Martin Groves (104) and Roy Lane (91). Moran and Tony Marsh jointly hold the record for the most championships, with six apiece. Ken Wharton is the only driver to win four consecutive titles, while Marsh uniquely scored two hat-tricks in 1955-1957 and 1965–1967. Cooper T81
The Cooper T81 is a Formula One car produced by the Cooper Car Company for the 1966 Formula One season. It represented something of a comeback for Cooper's fortunes, winning two races and enabling Cooper to finish third in the Constructors' Championship in 1966 and 1967. Development The T81 was designed ahead of the World Championship season to operate within the new 3 litre engine regulations that came into effect that year. It would be powered by Maserati's Tipo 9 2.5-litre V12 engines which had been bored out to 3 litres. These were supplied by the Chipstead Group, Maserati's UK distributors, who had taken control of Cooper in April 1965. Cooper had tested the engine in the interim T80 model. Cooper T86
The Cooper T86 was a Formula One racing car built by Cooper and first raced in 1967. B and C specification cars were also built to accommodate different engines, but the car could not revive Cooper's fortunes and this type represents the last Formula One chassis built and raced by the former champion team. T86 The Cooper T81 had proved rather successful when it first appeared in 1966 but by mid-1967 it had slipped behind the newer cars of the leading teams. The new T86 car was built for Cooper's lead driver Jochen Rindt to use, starting with the British Grand Prix, a narrower, lower and lighter car fabricated from Elektron alloys with a bump around the gear lever to give the driver more space while changing gear, a feature that became a common sight on single-seater cars well into the 1970s. British Racing Motors
British Racing Motors (BRM) was a British Formula One motor racing team. Founded in 1945 and based in the market town of Bourne, Lincolnshire, Bourne in Lincolnshire, it participated from 1951 to 1977, competing in 197 Grand Prix motor racing, grands prix and winning seventeen. Formula Libre, also known as Formule Libre, is a form of automobile racing allowing a wide variety of types, ages and makes of purpose-built racing cars to compete "head to head". This can make for some interesting matchups, and provides the opportunity for some compelling driving performances against superior machinery. Silverstone Circuit
Silverstone Circuit is a motor racing circuit in England, near the Northamptonshire villages of Silverstone and Whittlebury. It is the home of the British Grand Prix, which it first hosted as the 1948 British Grand Prix. The 1950 British Grand Prix at Silverstone was the first race in the newly created World Championship of Drivers. The race rotated between Silverstone, Aintree Motor Racing Circuit, Aintree and Brands Hatch from 1955 to 1986, but settled permanently at the Silverstone track in 1987.
