Marko Kovačević
Marko Kovačević (; born 9 May 1988) is a Montenegrin Serb politician serving as the mayor of Nikšić since 10 May 2021 and the spokesperson of the New Serb Democracy. Prior to this he was a member of the Parliament of Montenegro. Biography Early life and education Kovačević was born on 9 May 1988 to a Montenegrin Serb family in Nikšić, at that time part of SR Montenegro and SFR Yugoslavia. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Montenegro. Political career After graduating from the University of Montenegro, Kovačević joined the New Serb Democracy, an ethnic Serb political party in Montenegro and became a member of the Municipal Assembly of Nikšić in two convocations and member of the Committee for Statute and Regulations of the Municipal Assembly of Nikšić. Nikšić
Nikšić (Cyrillic script, Cyrillic: Никшић, ), is the second largest city in Montenegro, with a total population of 32,046 (2023 census) located in the west of the country, in the centre of the spacious Nikšić field at the foot of Trebjesa Hill. It is the center of Nikšić Municipality with population of 65,705 according to 2023 census, which is the largest municipality by area and second most inhabited after Podgorica. 2021 Montenegrin Municipal Elections
Local elections were held on 14 March 2021 in Nikšić Municipality, on 9 May 2021 in Herceg Novi Municipality, while the elections in the municipalities of Cetinje, Mojkovac and Petnjica were held on 5 December 2021. Elections resulted in won for local-level opposition parties in 3 out of 5 municipalities. Large coalition consisting of the former ZBCG (led by DF), MNN (led by DCG) and CnB (led by URA) formed local government in Nikšić and Mojkovac municipalities, while SDP and the independent list "Old Guard of the LSCG" rise in Cetinje Old Royal Capital. The term Greater Serbia or Great Serbia () describes the Serbian nationalist and irredentist ideology of the creation of a Serb state which would incorporate all regions of traditional significance to Serbs, a South Slavic ethnic group, including regions outside modern-day Serbia that are partly populated by Serbs. Serbian nationalism asserts that Serbs are a nation and promotes the cultural and political unity of Serbs. It is an ethnic nationalism, originally arising in the context of the general rise of nationalism in the Balkans under Ottoman rule, under the influence of Serbian linguist Vuk Stefanović Karadžić and Serbian statesman Ilija Garašanin. 2020 Montenegrin Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Montenegro on 30 August 2020. They were the fifth parliamentary in Montenegro since 2006 Montenegrin independence referendum, gaining its independence in 2006.
