Markham—Stouffville is a provincial electoral district in Ontario. It encompasses a portion of Ontario formerly included in the electoral districts of Markham—Unionville (provincial electoral district) and Oak Ridges—Markham (provincial electoral district). The boundaries of the provincial riding of Markham—Stouffville are identical with those of the new federal riding of Markham—Stouffville (federal electoral district), Markham—Stouffville, created by the 2012 Canadian federal electoral redistribution. The provincial redistribution came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Ontario provincial election in June 2018. 2011 Canadian Census
The 2011 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population on May 10, 2011. Statistics Canada, an agency of the Canadian government, conducts a nationwide census every five years. In 2011, it consisted of a mandatory short form census questionnaire and an inaugural National Household Survey (NHS), a voluntary survey which replaced the mandatory long form census questionnaire; this substitution was the focus of much controversy. Completion of the (short form) census is mandatory for all Canadians, and those who do not complete it may face penalties ranging from fines to prison sentences. The Ontario New Democratic Party (NDP; , NPD) is a social democratic political party in Ontario, Canada. The party sits on the centre-left of the political spectrum.
