Mark Karpelès
Mark Robert Karpelès (born 1985) is a French businessman and the former CEO of bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox. While Mt. Gox became the world's largest bitcoin exchange at its peak under his management, the company would file for bankruptcy in 2014, and Karpelès was subsequently arrested and convicted of data manipulation related to his role there. Early life and education Born in 1985 in Chenôve, France, Karpelès is the child of geologist Anne-Robert Karpelès. He was raised in Dijon. From 1995 to 2000, he attended Collège Prieuré de Binson in Châtillon-sur-Marne, near Dormans. He then spent one year at Lycée Claude Bernard in Paris before completing his education in 2003 at Lycée Louis Armand in Paris. Career Karpelès moved to Japan in 2009 and founded Tibanne Co. Chenôve
Chenôve () is a commune in the Côte-d'Or department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. Until 1955, it was a small scale wine-growing village, when it was absorbed into the urban conglomeration of Dijon. Silk Road was an online black market and the first modern darknet market. It was launched in 2011 by its American founder Ross Ulbricht under the pseudonym " Dread Pirate Roberts". Ross William Ulbricht (; born March 27, 1984) is an American who created and operated the illegal darknet market Silk Road from 2011 until his arrest in 2013. Silk Road was an online marketplace that facilitated the trade in narcotics and other illegal products and services. Sales were anonymous, using bitcoin. It operated as a hidden service on the Tor network. Ulbricht ran the site under the pseudonym "Dread Pirate Roberts" after the fictional character from '' The Princess Bride.''
