Marijampolė City, FA Suvalkija, Suvalkijos jaunimo futbolo klubo akademija (Sudovian Youth Football Academy) is a football club based in the city of Marijampolė, Lithuania. In 2022 Marijampolė City merged with the second tier I Lyga club FK Šilas Kazlų Rūda. The merger kept Marijampolė City name. History * 2018 - the club was founded as a football academy by the initiative of football enthusiasts, parents and businessmen. The club have set ambitious goals to become nationally and internationally renown academy. * 2019 - the club applied for the II Lyga license and was granted one. The club took fifth place in II Lyga Southern Zone. * 2020 – obtained II Lyga license, but later abandoned plans to compete. I Lyga
The LFF Pirma Lyga, TOPsport Pirma Lyga, or Pirma Lyga, is the second tier of professional Lithuanian football championship. Format Organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), I Lyga is contested by 16 teams, with the top team gaining promotion to A Lyga and replaced by the lowest-placed team in top division. The second-placed team qualifies to a promotion play-off with A Lyga's second to last team. Bottom 2 clubs are relegated to the II Lyga, and 3rd last team plays a play-off with the 3rd placed team in II Lyga. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process. FK Šilas Kazlų Rūda
FK Šilas is a Lithuanian football club from the city of Kazlų Rūda. The team competes in the I Lyga, in second tier of Lithuanian football since 2021. In 2022, after a merger, the club was renamed to Marijampolė City, and moved to Marijampolė. History Šilas was founded in 1940 as FK Ąžuolas. The club has been renamed several times in the following years. In 2016 Šilas won I Lyga and hoped for promotion to A Lyga, but after a match fixing scandal were relegated to II Lyga. The club was officially declared entering administration, and therefore were not allowed to play in A Lyga or I Lyga. As FK Šilas lost place in A Lyga, FK Kauno Žalgiris got saved from the relegation to I Lyga. II Lyga
Lithuanian Football Federation's II lyga, LFF II lyga is the third tier Lithuanian football championship. As of 2021, the II lyga is a single league, consisting of planned 16 teams. The two top teams gain promotion to the I Lyga. Until the end of 2020 season the league consisted of the Southern Zone and the Western Zone. The Northern Zone and the Eastern Zone existed in some past seasons, but were done away with due to the dwindling number of participating clubs. Kazlų Rūda () is a city in the Marijampole County in southern Lithuania. It is located north from Marijampolė. The city is surrounded by forests, but a railway line crosses the city and divides it into almost equal parts. The former Soviet Army Kazlų Rūda airbase is northeast of Kazlų Rūda. The Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF; ) is the governing body of football in Lithuania. The Federation is responsible for football development in the country and for the national teams, including the Lithuania national football team. It is based in Vilnius. LFF became a member of FIFA in 1923, but following Lithuania's annexation by the Soviet Union it was disbanded. It became a member again in 1992 after Lithuania regained its independence. 2019 Lithuanian Football Cup
2019 Lithuanian Football Cup, SHARP LFF Cup was the 31st independent Lithuania and the 74th overall national football cup tournament. The tournament started on 26 April 2019, and the final took place on 29 September 2019. The competition format is a single-elimination tournament, all ties are contested in a single match. The cup winners qualify for the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League. The defending champions were FK Žalgiris. Participants Participation in the competition is mandatory for all clubs of the top three tiers (A Lyga, LFF I Lyga, LFF II Lyga). The 2022 Lithuanian Football Cup, for sponsorship reasons also called is a Single-elimination tournament, single elimination association football, football tournament in Lithuania. The winner of the competition earns a spot in the first qualifying round of the 2023–24 UEFA Europa Conference League.
