Marija Makarovič
Marija Makarovič, née Jagodic, (born 15 August 1930) is a Slovene ethnologist. Makarovič was born in Ljubljana in 1930. After graduating from the University of Ljubljana in 1953 she worked as a curator at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum from 1953 until 1989. From 1993 to 1997 she led the '' Urban Jarnik Slovene Ethnographic Institute'' in Klagenfurt. In 2001 she was one of the co-founders of ''Centre for Biographic Research'' in Ljubljana together with Prof. Dr. Mojca Ramšak. Ethnology (from the , meaning 'nation') is an academic field and discipline that compares and analyzes the characteristics of different peoples and the relationships between them (compare cultural, social, or sociocultural anthropology). Levstik Award
The Levstik Award () is a literary award in Slovenia awarded for achievements in children's literature. It has been bestowed since 1949 by the Mladinska Knjiga Publishing House, making it the first literary award established by a Slovene publishing house after the Second World War. It includes a prize for original works of literature, original illustrations, and non-fiction books for children. Up until 1989, it was awarded annually. Since then it has been awarded biannually. Urban Jarnik
Urban Jarnik (11 May 1784 – 11 June 1844) was a Carinthian Slovene priest, historian, poet, linguist, author and ethnographer. He was born in the lower Gail Valley in the Duchy of Carinthia. He served as a parish priest in several villages and towns throughout southern Carinthia, including Klagenfurt and Moosburg, which at the time still had a large Slovene-speaking population. Living among the Slovenian-speaking populations, Jarnik developed an interest in the many Slovenian dialects spoken in the era. He became the first Slovenian dialectologist and ethnographer. He was co-editor of the bilingual scholarly and cultural journal ''Carinthia'', edited in Klagenfurt. In his numerous articles, he wrote about the customs and rural cultural traditions of the local Slovenes. He also collected and edited several books of Slovenian and Slavic folk songs and tales.
