Mariefred
Mariefred is a locality situated in Strängnäs Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden with 3,726 inhabitants in 2010. The name is derived from that of the former Carthusian monastery here, Mariefred Charterhouse, and means "Peace of Mary" (the former name was Gripsholm). It lies roughly 50 kilometres west of Stockholm. Mariefred, despite its small population, is for historical reasons often still referred to as a ''city''. Statistics Sweden, however, only counts localities with more than 10,000 inhabitants as cities. Gripsholm Castle is located in the town. Adjacent to the castle is the nature reserve and deer park Gripsholms hjorthage. The old barn of Gripsholm Castle was a centre for fine arts printmaking, ''Grafikens Hus'' ("House of Graphics"). Mariefred Charterhouse
Mariefred Charterhouse, sometimes referred to as Gripsholm Charterhouse ( sv, Mariefreds kloster, la, Monasterium Pacis Mariae or ''Pax Mariae''), was a Carthusian monastery, or charterhouse, in the present town of Mariefred in Södermanland, Sweden, to which it gave its name; before the building of the monastery the place was known as Gripsholm. It was the only Carthusian monastery in Scandinavia, and one of the last monasteries established in Sweden before the Reformation. Östra Södermanlands Järnväg
Östra Södermanlands Järnväg (Ö.Sl.J.),'' Eastern Södermanland Railway'' is a narrow gauge railway in Mariefred, Sweden. Steam-hauled passenger traffic is provided all days of the week during the summer. Operations began on a small scale at the Lina brick works in Södertälje in 1959, until a chance to take over the recently closed Läggesta-Mariefred appeared in 1964. Mikael Samuelsson
Karl Mikael Samuelsson (born 23 December 1976) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey right winger. Samuelsson began his career in Sweden, starting with small town team IFK Mariefred, followed by Södertälje SK as a junior in 1994. He went on to also play for Swedish teams IK Nyköping, Frölunda HC and Brynäs IF. After being selected 145th overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks, he moved to North America for the 2000–01 NHL season. Samuelsson spent short stints with the Sharks, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers, before returning to Europe during the 2004–05 NHL lockout. Strängnäs Municipality (''Strängnäs kommun'') is a municipality in Södermanland County in eastern Sweden, located by Lake Mälaren. Its seat is located in the city of Strängnäs. The present municipality was created in 1971, when the ''City of Strängnäs'' was amalgamated with the ''City of Mariefred'' and a number of rural municipalities. Gripsholms Hjorthage
Gripsholms hjorthage is a deer park and nature reserve close to Gripsholm Castle in Södermanland County, Sweden. The deer pasture is dominated by many old oak trees. The area has been used for grazing for a long time, and as a deer park since the end of the 19th century. It was declared a nature reserve in 2001 after the discovery of the red-listed hermit beetle in the area. It is also popular as a recreational area. History The area contains traces of old settlements, including a hillfort and a pre-Christian burial site. Its more recent history starts with it being part of a royal estate belonging to nearby Gripsholm Castle, supplying the court with foodstuffs. The estate farm has existed since the 13th century, and since the 17th century the estate has used the area that is today Gripsholms hjorthage as pasture. Södermanland ( or ), locally Sörmland, sometimes referred to under its Latin form ''Sudermannia'' or ''Sudermania'', is a historical province or ''landskap'' on the south eastern coast of Sweden. Lisa Ekdahl (born 29 July 1971 in Hägersten, Stockholm, Sweden) is a Swedish popular music singer and songwriter. She has so far released 10 albums, most of them in Swedish but some entirely in English. Her voice has been described as "child-like" and "soft, supple and smooth". Kurt Tucholsky (; 9 January 1890 – 21 December 1935) was a German journalist, satirist, and writer. He also wrote under the pseudonyms Kaspar Hauser (after the historical figure), Peter Panter, Theobald Tiger and Ignaz Wrobel.
