Maricá (footballer)
Sérgio Silva de Souza Júnior (born 24 September 1979), better known as Maricá, is a Brazilian former professional footballer, who played as a right back. Career Player of the under-17 team at the 1995 World Cup, he had a meteoric rise at Vasco, standing out mainly in the 1997 Campeonato Brasileiro campaign. He played for several years at Vasco, accumulating titles, but after being sold to AEK Athens, he was unable to repeat his previous achievements, moving from club to club over the years. Independência Futebol Clube, commonly known as Independência, is a Brazilian association football club based in Rio Branco, Acre. The club currently competes in Campenato Acreano, the top division of the Acre state football league, and the Campeonato Brasileiro Série D. They play their home matches at the 10,000-capacity Estádio Antônio Aquino Lopes. Independência's home kit is a shirt with green, white and red vertical stripes, white shorts and white socks, similar to Fluminense from Rio de Janeiro, who is also the inspiration for their crest. The 1998 edition of the Campeonato Carioca kicked off on January 25, 1998 and ended on May 17, 1998. It is the official tournament organized by FFERJ (Federação de Futebol do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, or Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation. The Campeonato Carioca (Carioca Championship), officially known as Campeonato Estadual do Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro State Championship), also commonly known as the Cariocão, is the top-flight professional state football league in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. The CONMEBOL Libertadores, also known as Copa Libertadores de América (), is an annual continental club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1960. It is the highest level of competition in South American club football. The 1995 FIFA U-17 World Championship was the sixth edition of the FIFA U-17 World Championship which was held in the cities of Guayaquil, Portoviejo, Quito, Ibarra, Cuenca, and Riobamba in Ecuador from 3 to 20 August 1995. Players born after 1 August 1978 could participate in this tournament.
