Mariano Herrón
Mariano Andrés Herrón Valera (born 24 February 1978 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine football manager and former player who played as a defensive midfielder. He is the current assistant manager of Boca Juniors. Career Herrón began his playing career with Argentinos Juniors on 10 August 1998 in a 2–2 draw with Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy. In 2000, he had a loan spell with French side Montpellier but returned to play for Argentinos until 2002. After single seasons with San Lorenzo and Rosario Central he joined Spanish side UE Lleida in 2004. In 2005, he returned again to Argentina to play for Independiente. He spent the whole of 2009 on loan to Deportivo Cali of Colombia. In July 2010, Herrón moved to the second division to play for Aldosivi. Coaching career After retiring, Herrón became a part of Bichi Borghi's coaching staff at Argentinos Juniors. Claudio Daniel Borghi Bidos (; born 28 September 1964), nicknamed ''Bichi'', is an Argentina, Argentine naturalized Chilean people, Chilean Association football, football manager and former player who played as an attacking midfielder. The 2002 Copa Sudamericana was the inaugural Copa Sudamericana, a club association football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. It took place between August 28 and December 11. After the failure in creating a Pan-American Cup to be played among teams from the entire American continent, CONMEBOL decided to create another tournament bearing the continent's name. Nine association's clubs entered the first competition, with one not sending a representative; Brazilian clubs did not participate due to the late organization of the tournament and schedule conflicts. The first match of the competition took place between Venezuelan sides Deportivo Táchira and Monagas in San Cristóbal, Venezuela. The CONMEBOL Sudamericana, also known as Copa Sudamericana (; ), is an annual international club football competition organized by CONMEBOL, the governing body of football in South America, since 2002. It is the second-most prestigious club competition in South American football. CONCACAF clubs were invited between 2004 and 2008. The CONMEBOL Sudamericana began in 2002, replacing the separate competitions Copa Merconorte and Copa Mercosur (that had replaced Copa CONMEBOL) by a single competition.
