Maria João Bastos
Maria João David da Silva Bastos (born 18 June 1975) is a Portuguese actress. She has participated in several Brazilian productions, becoming a known actress in Brazil. Biography Maria João was born in Benavente, Santarém District. She holds a degree in Communication Sciences from the Independent University of Lisbon. Maria took an English course in England in 1993, a casting and video and dummy course at Visual LX in 1994 and a theater, film and television course in New York City in the year 2000. She signed an exclusive contract with The Portuguese television station, TVI. Bastos is ambassador of the Jaguar car brand, and representative of the Italian brand Furla, in Portugal. Her character "Liliane Marise", a pimba music singer, in the telenovela ''Destinos Cruzados'', was so remarkable that it released a CD that reached first place in the Portuguese music charts. Benavente () is a municipality and parish in Santarém District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 29,019 in an area of 521.38 km2. History In 1199, the fixation of foreign settlers on the left bank of the Tagus River created a town on a peninsula in the tagus estuary. Situated in the western limits of Coruche castle dominion, subordinate to the Order of Calatrava. This small settlement remained under the Seignory of this Military Order, which named it Benavente, the same name as a castle of the same Military order in the Kingdom of León (Benavente, Zamora). Emanuel Querido (6 August 1871 – 23 July 1943) was a successful Dutch publisher as the founder and owner of N.V. Em. Querido Uitgeversmaatschappij, which published Dutch titles, and of , which published titles of German writers in exile from Nazi Germany. Although he and his wife were murdered by the Nazis in 1943, his company has gone on to publish several important authors.
