Maria Anzai
Maria Anzai (安西 マリア, ''Anzai Maria'', b. ''Mariko Shibasaki'' on December 16, 1953 - d. March 15, 2014) was a Japanese idol. Biography Maria Anzai made her debut in 1973 with a Japanese language version of ''"Namida no Taiyō"'', originally performed in English by Japanese singer Emy Jackson. The single sold over 500,000 copies. That same year she was nominated for ''Best Newcomer of the Year'' at the 15th Japan Record Awards, but was beaten by Junko Sakurada. She has also acted in movies and television series. She retired from show business in 1978, married and emigrated to Hawaii. She released 12 singles between 1973 and 1978 and 4 albums. Emy Jackson (エミー・ジャクソン, born Emy Eaton, 2 July 1945) is a Japanese female singer. Biography Emy Jackson was born in Essex, England, and moved to Yokohama as a teenager. She found work as a disc jockey for the ''Good Hit Parade'' on Radio Kanto. In April 1965 her debut single ''Crying in a Storm'' was released. Jackson was promoted as a foreign artist. The single peaked at No. 4 on the chart of foreign releases in ''Music Life'' and No. 6 on the ''Turn Table Top 50''. She is the first Japanese artist to have sold a million records singing in English (for ''Crying in a Storm''). Emy Jackson's initial musical career was a brief one. Junko Sakurada
is a Japanese singer and actress. She was part of a music trio in 1973, which included Momoe Yamaguchi and Masako Mori. Sakurada then became successful in a solo music career, with 18 top ten singles in the 1970s. Her acting career ran from 1973 to 1993. She received multiple awards for her acting roles, including the Hochi Film Award, Award of the Japanese Academy, Kinema Junpo Award, and Mainichi Film Concours. is a Japanese pop music genre, which became a base of modern J-pop. ''The Japan Times'' described ''kayōkyoku'' as "standard Japanese pop" or "Shōwa period, Shōwa-era pop". ''Kayōkyoku'' represents a blend of Western and Japanese musical scales. Music in this genre is extremely varied as a result. ''Kayōkyoku'' in the narrower and more practical sense, however, excludes J-pop and ''enka''.
